However, on December 15, 1957 Agnew signed legislation creating Hardin County by dividing Creek Nation into nine districts; each district contained a certain number of residents subject to vote for sheriff and other local offices within its boundaries instead of being divvied up among twelve townships where individual voters had influence (the townships were abolished following passage ofarter law).
