Lawton, Oklahoma is a small town in east-central Oklahoma. The population was 5,819 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mayes County and part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1881 by General George Lawton, who served as military governor of OKC during the Indian Wars. He opened up land to farming and built a mill which became one of the largest in OKC. In 1907, General Lawton organized what would become the Mayes County Agricultural Society to provide agrarian relief to farmers in need. The society remains active today and provides support to local ranchers and farmers through grants, donations, and services such as seed distribution and crop insurance. Today, Lawton is known for its arts scene - with several galleries, museums, and theatres located within its walls. One popular attraction is the Oktoberfest which takes place annually in downtown Lawton on October 6th-10th. Other annual events include the Independence Day parade (which typically features floats made from local products), golf tournaments/putts putt days/fairs/bullying contests/fairs at civic center (held every other year), rodeo weekends (usually featuring stately horses or cattle), live music concerts throughout the year at various venues around town (including The Arkadius Arena Amphitheatre & Conference Center), pumpkin carving races on Halloween night outside The Arkadius Arena Auditorium & Conference Center - along with numerous family fun activities like carnivals, games shows & more!

Lawton, Oklahoma is a small town located in rural northeastern Oklahoma. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. The name of the town originates from the Choctaw word "law" meaning "to protect." A post office was established in Lawton on April 16, 1907. The first settler in Lawton was George W. White and his family. The community of Lawton grew rapidly due to its location near railroad tracks and its access to irrigated land. In 1928, General Price sold 640 acres of land east of Lawton to the city of Wichita for $5,000. Wichita initiated a program called "The Great Plains Experiment" which aimed to promote economic development along the eastern edge of what is now Wichita County by moving settlers there from other towns in northwestern Oklahoma and Kansas Territory. In 1933, lawrence Hays founded the Hays Oil Company with a goal of developing shale oil resources in western Wasilla County. Although initial plans called for exploitation on an extensive scale, production only reached a minimal level because it required expensive equipment and drilling technique that had not yet been developed . By 1944, however, company operations had resumed following investment by Lawrence Hays' son-in-law James Wattenberg into exploration wells at Belle Fourche Reserve located about 10 miles south of Lawton
