Jenks is a small town in Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,902 at the 2010 census. Jenks is part of the Jenks-Tonkawa Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Jenks was James Purdy in 1881. The town was founded on May 15, 1902 by a group of men who had driven out of Jenks, Kansas, during the territorial period. George Hite and his family arrived in 1903 and began to build their house on Main Street. In 1904 the townspeople voted to name the town after Edwin Ayer Jenkins, an associate justice of the Oklahoma Territorial Supreme Court. Jenkins Drug Store opened its doors in 1906 and soon became one of the most important businesses in Jenks. It remained open until it closed its doors for good in 2007 due to financial problems. Today there is only one remaining building from when Jenkins Drug Store operated: a modern day convenience store known as "The Grit". In 1907 Wm. Kappner built a millinery shop on South Main Street which he named "Kappner's lace yard". The shop continued to operate until it closed for good in 1986 due to lack of business opportunity. Today that building still stands vacant and is used as a storage shed by local farmers

There were 3 times as many households as families; however this may be due to high dependency ratios caused by its small size relative to other cities in Stephens County There were 3 more housing units than there are people in Jenks today because annexed territory from Guthrie moved into Jenks with no change in population or demographics after annexation occurred; however this does not reflect current demographic because Guthrie strip map does not list annexed territory
