In 1912, representatives from Jenks Agricultural and Manufacturing company decided to move their operations to Tulsa where they would be closer to customers and manufacturers. The company continued operations until it merged with United States Steel Corporation in 1957. Today Jenks remains an agricultural center with cotton, soybeans, cattle and sheep being some of its most common exports. The town also contains several businesses that offer services such as home health aides, ambulance service, truck driving school and plumbing supplies/contractors

Jenks was a small town in far western Oklahoma, until the early 20th century. The post office at Jenks was established on December 12, 1907, and continued operations until it closed on May 5, 1935. The first settler in Jenks was W. H. Stephenson who arrived in 1906 from Virginia. At the time of its establishment, Jenks had a population of only sixty-four people and two businesses. In 1908, the United States Congress passed a bill providing for an Indian reservation in Jenks area with land totaling 614 acres (248 hectares). The first school in Jenks opened in 1909 and operated for one year before being replaced by a Presbyterian church which also opened up the school. A new school building was completed in 1912 and served as the town's main library from 1913 to 1935. In 1915, Jenkins became part of choice towns whenOklahoma became a state; this gave Jenkins more autonomy than other towns within the newly created state government. In 1926,Jenkins voted to become an independent city; this decision was overturned by the Oklahoma State Legislature but later reinstated by Governor James Guthrie because Jenks felt it would be less difficult to manage as an unincorporated city under state jurisdiction than as a municipally owned community within OKC metropolitan area
Jenks, Oklahoma was founded by C.W. Jenks in 1907. The town was named for him and his wife, Jennie. Jenks operated a general store, a school, and a shoe factory before becoming an agricultural center. In the 1920s, Jenks began developing into a major city with growing industry and population. The arrival of the Interstate Highway System in the 1930s helped spur growth and development in the city, culminating in its incorporation as a municipality in 1945.
