Jenks is a small town in Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,566 at the 2010 census. Jenks is located in the eastern panhandle of the state and nestles between Fort Smith and Tulsa to the south and east, respectively. It is bordered by Haskell County to the west, Muskogee County to the north, Rogers County to the south, and Washita County to the east. The name "Jenks" comes from two words: "Jensky" which means "settlement" and "aks" which means creek or stream. The first settler in Jenks was Michael Jensky who landed on what is now property that includes present-day Jenks on December 12th, 1881. He named his land Jensky Creek after his father Jacob Jensky who had homesteaded in this area some years earlier. In 1884, John Averill founded an adjacent town called Averillville near present-day Tulsa while he continued farming in Jenks. This community failed because there were not enough people willing to move away from their homes for fear of being too close to Tulsa's burgeoning manufacturing industry (Averill also opened a store there). In 1906, Halsey Cox started a munitions plant in Jenks that used local water resources so much that he needed new wells drilled nearby so that he could keep production going even when power went out during World War I; Jenks became known as one of Oklahoma's most water-guzzling towns due to its reliance on coking coal mining operations until those days too. In 1930 – less than 10 years after it had been founded – Jenks incorporated as a city under OKC law #1011 with just over 500 residents living in downtown buildings with open spaces scattered around for agriculture or commerce only; growth came slowly as citizens preferred nearer home life experiences such as hunting/fishing or daytrips outside of town limits; however by 1960 nearly all residents had moved away except for a core group who established themselves around downtown core businesses including banks (the first bank west of Interstate 35), breweries (including First National Bank), restaurants (Hollywood Grill & Brewery), bars (The Grapes), post office (First National Bank) and doctor practices (Oklahoma City General Hospital). Today only about 100 residents remain within downtown boundaries while more than 2200 acres surrounding it are employed within its various designated areas such as retail stores/mall districts/zoo etc.; many aspects of today's economy were born out ofJenkins' post WW II boomtown status quo!

Jenks is a town in Stephens County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,945 at the 2010 census. Jenks was founded in 1881 by C.F. Jenkins and named for his sister Jennie. The first post office was established in Jenks on December 2, 1881. In 1907 the name of the town was changed to Jenks, Oklahoma because of the addition of an "o" to the name of Jenks City in Oklahoma Territory (now south-central Oklahoma). In 1930, when Stephens County became part of new Tulsa County,[1] Jenks became annexation property of Tulsa County and lost its city status.[2][3] However, it regained its city status as an incorporated municipality on November 3, 1950 with a population of 563 (including unincorporated areas).[4][5] Its original downtown is now known as "The Market."
The Jenks area was first settled in the late 1800s by pioneers who arrived from Kansas. The town was named for Major General John Jenks, an early settler and a participant in the Indian Wars of 1868-1870. The first business in Jenks was a grocery store operated by local farmers. When railroad construction began nearby, the town quickly became a transportation hub for goods traveling between Tulsa and Jenks. In 1907, Jenks had its first school and in 1912 it became home to the first post office in Oklahoma. The population ofJenks rapidly grew during the early 20th century as businesses developed and people migrated to the area from all over central Oklahoma. By 1920, Jenks had become one of Tulsa's most populous neighborhoods with over 12,000 residents. However, during World War IIJenks experienced significant decline as many residents left for military service or jobs overseas. In 1945,Jenkins merged with neighboring towns to form what is now known as Tulsa City Limits
