Jenks, Oklahoma is a small town located in the Tulsa metropolitan area. The population was 18,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa-Mulberry County, OK Metropolitan Statistical Area. Jenks is one of the centers of education for the Tulsa metropolitan area and it has two high schools, Jenks High School and Meskell-Lenox High School. The first Europeans to visit Jenks were French missionaries in 1824. A post office was established here in 1834 by J. W. Jenkins, Sr., with the name of Fort Jenks being erected in 1840 on land donated by his father-in-law, James Lenox (1804-1891). The town grew rapidly due to its location on US 36 just south of present day Jenks Elementary School and its easy access to water supplies from both the Arkansas River and Canadian River. In 1885, a railroad station was built here on what is now First National Bank property adjacent to Present Day Middle/High School and today's courthouse complex complex; this marked the beginning of a period during which Jenks became an important center for trade and commerce within Tulsa County as well as nationally. In 1907, Ladds Bros., hardware stores who had recently moved from Stillwater, Oklahoma opened their first store in Jenks; this store would become one of the most successful in Tulsa County until it closed its doors circa 1978 following a fire that destroyed much of its inventory including some rare items such as cannons used during World War II by local farmers against Japanese forces occupying their country. In 1924 when Prohibition began nationwide and all alcohol sales were banned in Texas except for state wine stores operating under special licensees issued by then Governor John Connally, businesses throughout Tulsa refused to sell beer or other alcoholic beverages to residents outside their business districts; this caused significant social unrest throughoutOKLAHOMA resulting in several high profile fistfights between liquor dealers which often ended with arrests or even fatalities although technically these incidents were self defense calls made pursuant to state law rather than personal vendettas against legal opponents considered criminals by many people at that time...the result was an exodus of middle class Oklahomans out into our great big open country where they could buy whatever they wanted without paying taxes! This migration not only impacted our economy but also put large numbers (probably more than 100) out of work because no one wanted to be associated with something that had been outlawed! In 1935 when new Oklahoma State Capitol building was completed downtown on Guadalupe Street next door to First National Bank building; after years of planning and construction lead by Mayor J C Hennigan (1910-1964), general merchandise retailer J C Hennessey opened his second store inside old cathedral across from Southern Methodist University prior thereto serving as overflow storage for Hennigan’s original flagship store until 1938 when he sold his interest in operations hereinto Pinnacle Records Inc.; thereafter OkemosRecords Incorporated began operations beneath new State Capitol Building Store No 2 immediately east thereof providing music sales distribution services primarily through locally owned record shops statewide thru dealies exclusivelyuntil early 1969 When retailing activities herein ceased due hereafter To anti theft measures implemented At State Capitol By Board Of Education subsequentTo opening thereof...retailers remaining extant presently are Eastern Supply Co & Jerry’s Grist Mill

Jenks, Oklahoma is a small town located in northeastern Oklahoma. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census. Jenks is the seat of Jenks County and the county courthouse is located in Jenks. The community was named for John Jenkins, an early settler in the area. The first settlers toJenkins were men from Illinois. They built their log cabin on the present-day site of Jenks on January 12, 1867. In 1870, they erected a frame courthouse which still stands today. A post office was established at Jenkins in 1875 and remained in operation until 1907. In 1902, the town became a part of Tulsa County and has since grown rapidly under its new location within Tulsa County limits. The current shopping center that houses a variety of businesses was built in 1978 adjacent to what is now Jenks High School; it replaced an earlier school building which had been destroyed by fire years earlier. The old high school building served as both the county courthouse and administrative headquarters for local government until it was destroyed by fire in 1984; it reopened as Jenkins Middle School later that year. The community experienced rapid growth during World War II when many local companies produced materials for military use such as aircraft parts and munitions; during that time, much of the housing development took place on land donated by friends or family members of those who enlisted or served in World War II. Afterward, growth slowed somewhat due to cadre shortages among engineering programs at universities across America following the war's end but has resumed somewhat recently with more recent arrivalsrush through town to find work opportunities near downtown Tulsa rather than stay here longterm Today, Jenks remains primarily an agricultural community with some light industry scattered throughout its boundaries including two large grain elevators (one dating back to 1929) which remain operational today despite being used extensively for storage over time
Jenks was founded in 1881 by J.D. Jenks and his family. The town grew rapidly, and by 1907 it had a population of over 1,500 residents. In 1916, the Jenks Manufacturing Company was founded, and quickly became one of the most successful small businesses in the area. The company prospered until World War II when it went out of business due to wartime production restraints. After the war, Jenks experienced a period of growth which continued into the 1960s and 1970s. In 1984, Jenks became an incorporated city with a population of over 10,000 people. In 2002, the City Council voted to rename the entire downtown section of Jenks "The District." The district includes several blocks of Center Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue as well as parts of Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue.
