Jenks is a small town located in the Oklahoma Panhandle. The population was at 5,819 as of the 2010 census. Jenks is part of the Jenks, OK Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Jenks was A.F. Gibson in 1881. The town was named after John Jenkins, who donated land to the community. In 1906, the post office was established and remained in operation until it closed on September 15, 1987. In 1907, Jenks had a population of 106 residents and a school that operated out of a log cabin. In 1925, Jenks added a Methodist church and a bank opened up in 1929 which remains open today as First National Bank of Jenks (FNBIL). In 1951, when Oklahoma became an all-black state,Jenkins resident Alice Epps founded the first black elementary school in Oklahoman history called Booker T Washington Elementary School (BTW). This school served African American students from pre-K to 6th grade for over forty years until it closed in 2003 due to budgetary restrictions placed on districts by Governor Mary Fallin.

Jenks is a small town located in Tulsa County, Oklahoma. The population was 2,093 at the 2010 census. Jenks is a historic community that has been around since 1907. The town was originally named Indianola and was established by the Wichita tribe of Native Americans. In 1907, the name Jenks was given to the community by Major John J. Jenks, who served as military governor of OK in 1907-1908. The first post office in Jenks opened on December 9, 1907. The population of Jenks peaked at 3,500 in 1910 but declined due to economic reasons and other factors such as World War I and prohibitionism. However, the population rebounded by 1920 because of new technology enterprises which were started in the town during this time. In 1925, Jenks had its only tornado when a severe storm hit the area on October 5th that killed two people and injured twenty-one others

The Jenks, Oklahoma site of the first U.S. Pony express service is located in present-day Jenks, Okla., about 15 miles east of the city of Tulsa on County Road 191. The first pony express service was organized by David Holliday and his brothers in 1868 as a way to provide shipment of goods faster than horses could be brought overland from eastern Oklahoma. The Holliday Brothers became the first company to offer regular passenger service between Tulsa and Jenks. The original route ran from Jenks northward along Arkansas Avenue until it reached US 71 near Elk City; then it continued northeast along US 71 until it reached Jenks, where it turned south upon reaching eastbound US 71. From there, passengers traveled on horseback or wagon directly to their destinations without stopping at any other towns along the way. In 1875, the Holliday Brothers merged with another Pony Express company, the Grand Central Express Company (GEC), and continued running passenger services between Tulsa and Jenks using both companies' trains together. The GEC also offered freight services between Tulsa and Jenks; however, this activity ceased after only two years due to competition from more reliable transportation methods such as railroads.
