In 1925, Dr J C Dutton became pastor of First Presbyterian Church and decided to open a hospital serving uninsured patients free of charge. This led to his purchase of land on which he built what is nowknown as Dutton Memorial Hospital (now known as Mayo Clinic). In 1951, when Oklahoma State University (OSU) was established, Dutton donated land containing three buildings – one for student housing and two clinics – to OSU for use as faculty residences and research facilities respectively. Today these buildings house both Mayo Clinic’s Division of Reproductive Medicine and Health Sciences Research Institute (HDRI) and OSU’s School of Veterinary Medicine..

In 1907, Jenks became the capital of the new Oklahoma Territory. In 1918, Jenks was destroyed by a fire that burned for days. The damage caused by the fire made Jenks one of the most devastated towns in America at that time.
