Jenks, Oklahoma is a town in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Jenks was James Cook who arrived in 1867. In 1881, Waddell and Peters moved to Jenks from Wichita Falls Texas and founded the Peters-Waddell cotton gin. The Porters became well-known for their quality cottonseed products which were sold throughout the region. In 1907, Atherton bought out the Peters-Waddell stock and started producing his own cottonseed products under the name Atherton Cottonseed Company. In 1925, Atherton merged with United Agricultural Workers of America (UAW) to form National Agricultural Workers Union (NAWU). Jenkins post office was established in 1907 and named for Jens Christensen who had donated land for it. The first postmaster was Nels Eriksen who served until 1911 when he was replaced by Drury Hargrave. Hargrave served until 1923 when he was replaced by John Littrell who continued serving until 1934 when he resigned after being caught up in a bribery scandal involving local political leaders。 UAW Local No 527 organized a strike against Littrell's successor Ira Glasscock on November 25th 1934 over pay grievances that were not resolved within 180 days; this led to Glasscock's ouster as foreman of Jenks Foundry Company followed by a weeklong strike that ended on December 2nd 1934 with no resolution reached despite efforts by local union members to reopen negotiations
