Jenkins had its start as a small community on the banks of the Arkansas River northwest of present-day Jenks. A sawmill and grist mill were built there about 1904 by cattle ranchers Jens Kapp and John Soper; they operated until 1907 when their mills burned down. A depot was built here in 1907 by Wm Fenton for local passengers traveling to Tulsa via the Arkansas River Railroad which became known as the "Old Jenks Road".
