Throughout much of its history, Jenks has been home to some influential people who have had an impact on its community including: Drury Hennepin County Judge James Caddy starting off mercantile activities here in 1854[2], Major General Sherman’s assistant adjutant general at Atlanta during his march through Georgia in 1896[3], Captain George Armstrong Custer’s last stand at Little Bighorn on July 25th, 1886[4], and Congressman JoeJenkins (R-Oklahoma City) who represented district number 7 between 1978 and 1984[5]. The town was founded in 1887 by Captain John Jenks and his family. The first post office in Jenks opened in 1888. In 1904, the name of the town was changed to Jenks after General George Armstrong Custer's death. In 1907, a store was built on what is now Main Street and the first school was built on East Second Street. A millinery shop and grocery were also built early in the century. In 1938, Jenks had its first paved street and two years later it burned down due to an unknown fire. The next year a new school building was constructed on First Street and renamed East High School after Mrs. Lillie Catlett who donated land for it. She also financed half of the original cost of that building which still stands today as one of Jenks' most popular tourist attractions . In 1951, Jenks became home to its only airport when Waco-Lufkin Regional Airport opened nearby (now Fort Worth International Airport). That same year saw Jenkins become one of only three communities in Payne County to have their own post office (the others being Muskogee and Guthrie). Jennifer Drive passed throughJenkins from east to west for just over a mile before terminating at Highway 9 south near Osage Lake

Jenks is a small town in Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,751 at the 2010 census. Jenks was founded in 1881 by pioneers who arrived from Illinois and Kansas. Jenks was named for Major General George Washington Jenks, who served as a U.S. cavalry commander during the Mexican-American War. The first settlers of Jenks were farmers who grew corn and beans on their land until 1881 when they traveled to Kansas to purchase some new land that would become Jenks Township. The family of Fenton moved into the township in 1883 and it became a village in 1907 when the railroad arrived and made it easier for people to get around. In 1912, residents voted to change the name of the township to Jennings because President Woodrow Wilson had given them that name while he was visiting Jenks on his way to visit Wichita Falls, Texas In 1929, Jennings incorporated as an independent city with its own government and police department which still exists today Throughout its history, Jenkins has been home to many businesses such as banks, Chevrolet plants (and later Pontiac), chicken coops (the first one being built in 1907), schools (grades K-12th grade through college preparatory schools), churches (including two Baptist Churches) and numerous other businesses The last store closed down in 2009 but there is now an arts center called "The Gallery" located across from the high school which houses art classes for local students as well as exhibits from time to time
