The present day village of Jenks was founded on November 3, 1907 by George Wirtz and others from nearby McAlester. It took its name from William Jenkins who had donated land for this purpose. In 1912, a night shift at an oil refinery destroyed most of downtown Jenks when a bulldozer operated by officials while they were asleep hit it with high speed and caused great damage. This event led to increased awareness around safety issues at oil refineries which continue to be an important concern today. The night shift remained responsible for cleaning up until 1969 when responsibility shifted to a rotating guard team that continues today

Jenks, Oklahoma is a small town located in the eastern part of the state of Oklahoma. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Jenks is one of three towns in Deaf Smith County that were established as post offices by the United States government in 1881. The other two are Muskogee and McAlester. The first post office in Jenks was established on December 20, 1881, under the name Jenksville. On December 24, 1881, the post office was renamed to Jenks after Andrew Jenkins who served as a U.S. Representative from Texas from 1861-1871 and again from 1893-1901. In 1907, an addition to Jenks were two businesses named Beasley's grocery and flour mill which combined to form what is now known as Beasley's Grocery Co., Incorporated (later merged into Walmart). On November 3, 1907, the city of Jenks incorporated as a city with a population of 710 residents. The incorporation process took place because there wasn't enough land available to create a separate city within Deaf Smith County without violating county law which said that cities must have a population of at least 2,000 residents. In 1912, when Oklahoma became an independent country following its annexation by Mexico, Jenkins became part of Haskell County so it could be governed by American laws instead of Mexican ones. The City Council continued to exist until it disbanded on July 1st 1922 due to lack of funding from charter amendment passed by voters in 1920 but not funded through local taxation like other counties within Haskell County did at this time The Post Office building was razed in 1967 and replaced with an apartment complex which still stands today
Jenks was founded in 1911 by George Jenks and his wife, Lillie. The town was named for the Jenks family's ranch, which stretched from the eastern edge of the town to White Sands. In 1914, after Jenks had patented a new oil well in Oklahoma, he and his wife moved their family to Jenks. The first store in Jenks opened its doors on Main Street in 1911. By 1912, the population of Jenks had grown to about fifty people. In 1916, George Jenkins died and his wife took over the running of the business. She continued to run it until her death in 1933. After her death, the business passed through several families before it finally went out of business in 1951. A post office operated at Jennk from 1911-1916; it was renamed Jenks City Post Office in 1933 when it became part of Tulsa County. It remained a city post office until 1967 when it came under Tulsa County jurisdiction again.
