Jenks, Oklahoma is a small town located in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census and 2,814 as of July 2016. Jenks is located in Kit Carson County on the eastern edge of Tulsa County. The first Europeans to visit Jenks were French trappers in 1806 who named it "Jencourt". A post office called Jenkstown was established in 1827, and remained in operation until 1907. In 1881, a group of settlers led by John Crouch moved from Ottawa County to start a new community near present-day Jenks on what is now known as Farmington Road. They named their new settlement Park City after President James K. Polk's family home at West Point on Long Island (now New York City). The first store opened in Park City on December 12, 1881; it was operated by John Crouch and his brother David Crouch Sr.. By 1890, there were 125 residents living in Park City; this number grew to 300 by 1902 when construction began on the first park city schoolhouse. The first public school was built at what is now 10th and Elm streets; it grades kindergarten through grade 8 and served district No. 5 until 1979 when it became District No. 4 under the current system which provides education for all students within Tulsa Community School District #2 pursuant to State Statute 3881 et seq.. In 1903, Jesse Jenson purchased 144 acres (6 km²) northeast of Park City from David Crouch Sr., providing an opportunity for development around what would become Jenks Creek Valley that continues today with businesses such as Walmart Supercenter/Mall #1 (opened 2006), IHOP restaurant (#3 since 2005), Home Depot (#5 since 1997), KOCHtv station (channel 11) & Hobby LobbyStore since 2003 adjacent to Walmart Supercenter/Mall #1). On November 15, 1907,[4] Parkside Creamery opened its doors becoming one of Jenks' most popular attractions with customers travelling from all over OKLAHOMA for ice cream treats during summertime! Today Parkside Creamery still makes hand churned ice cream using old recipes dating back to 1860s! According to lore longtime resident Annie Tatum says "I'm not sure if you've ever seen anything like that before - an ice cream truck coming down Main Street!" That same year saw also establishment of US Post Office building next door across 10th Avenue along with enlargement & addition of 3 classrooms (& dual serves both schools) including enlarged gymnasium which seated 350 people! In 1912 Drue Bendixen established Nursing Home serving patients admitted free or at low cost thru Stages Hospital System thru Rolla Physicians Group Incorporated charting out area extending northwesterly from property hospitalizing citizens dying due To accident or disease while residing within limits specified therein while being affiliated with Sisters Hospitals Of Dallas TX MEMBERS OF THE NURSING HOME FROM 1908 THROUGH 1916 included Sisters Marie MacLeod & Agnes Fenton NOW Independent Sisters Historic Site member
