Guymon, Oklahoma is a small town that has been around since the 1800s. The original residents of the town were farmers who grew corn and beans. Over time, the town became a stop on the road for travelers and began to be known as "The Gunsmith's Village." In 1907, Guymon was incorporated as a city. The first mayor of Guymon was Wm. H. Dodge. The first police officer in Guymon was John A. Lafferty. In 1937, the Oklahoma Legislature passed an act which created the Oklahoma State Police Department and authorized county sheriffs to issue permits authorizing firearms owners to carry pistols in their jurisdictions without having to pass a gun safety class or obtain a concealed handgun license from the sheriff. This change allowed people in rural areas of OKLAHOMA to purchase handguns without fear of local law enforcement being able to seize or confiscate them if they were not properly licensed and registered with state authorities. On December 12th of that year, the City Council repealed its charter amendment which would have made it an incorporated city with more powers than it currently has; however incorporation never happened due to lack of support from within the community or from state lawmakers at that time. Guymon's economy primarily revolves around agriculture; however some manufacturing also takes place here along with some small businesses located throughout downtown and other areas of town as well as several service providers such as churches and schools located throughout central Stephensville/Guymon (the former industrial center). In recent years there has been growth in light industry with two major successes: First they developed a large printing plant here which employed over 100 people before being closed down due to competition from larger plants overseas but then later they opened up another large paper mill complex just east of downtown full production by 2015 employing over 500 people! Both operations are still active today providing good economic opportunities for local families despite difficult competition internationally!
