Guymon, Oklahoma is a small town located in Haskell County, Oklahoma. The population was 2,715 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Haskell County. The first post office was established in 1888. The name of the townoriginally was "Hutchinson." Guymon has a rich history dating back to its early days as a trading post and stagecoach stop on the Chisholm Trail. Today, Guymon is home to many businesses and residents who continue to make their presence known in this small community by contributing to its culture and society. One of the most significant aspects of Guymon's history is its role as the center of trade for much of southern Haskell County during the late 19th century. This important period saw an influx of new settlers from Ohio and other parts of America due to improvements made along the railroad network that linked Wichita, Kansas and Tulsa, Oklahoma. One such landmark event occurred on November 30, 1892 when American Express Company founder Cyrus McCormick arrived in Guymon with his entire shipment of freight including 10 horses and a wagonloads of goods intended for delivery to Wichita. Today, local businesses continue to play an important role in both economic development and social intercourse within the town limits. In 1948, the town switched from a one-party Republican to an open ticket Democratic party system. However, as time passed, more businesses closed and the population began to decrease. In 2002, Guymon voters approved a sales tax referendum to help fund local public services such as fire protection and transportation. As of 2019, there are only two remaining businesses in town: Ladder Laundry & Dry Cleaning Company and American Legion Hall which serves as its only restaurant/bar/.

Guymon was founded by the Holland family in 1907 on a 160-acre tract of land that is now part of the city of Oklahoma City. The town was quickly established as a center for agriculture and industry, with a population of just over 100 in 1914. In 1916, the Holland family sold their holdings to the Selvin family, who renamed it Guymon after their father, Guy Selvin. The town grew rapidly during World War I, reaching a population of 1,500 in 1918. During World War II, Guymon became one of the largest aluminum production towns in Oklahoma. By 1951, however, economic problems had led to depletion of resources and decline in market demand for aluminum products. In recent years, new development has resumed inGuymon with the construction of the Oklahoma State University campus and new businesses such as Mid-America Ford and OKC Steel Fabrication facilities. In addition to its active economy and history, Guymon also offers an array of cultural experiences such as arts festivals and rodeo events.
