Guymon is a small town in Haskell County, Oklahoma, about 34 miles (56 kilometers) northeast of the city of Tulsa. It was founded by pioneers in 1907 and had a population of just over 100 people when the United States Census Bureau reported it as a town in 1910. The population grew to more than 1,200 by 1920. In the early 1960s, Guymon became an important center for heavy oil production in western Oklahoma. After being abandoned by its operators, the town's economy revived with new construction and businesses starting up around 1990. In recent years, however, Guymon has been struggling to keep up with local employment demands and has lost some key residents to other towns in the area.

Today, Guymon remains a small town with close-knit relationships between its citizens and its local businesses and governments. Its economy revolves around agriculture and ranching as well as tourism which includes visiting nearby attractions such as Fort Gibson National Military Park and Cherokee National Forest

The first European to visit what is now Guymon was Capt. John Cushing and his party on July 7, 1827. He named the location "Cushing's Sale" after himself and his headquarters at Fort Washita near present day Tulsa. A post office called La Vista was established at this location on January 10, 1836, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1915. The village of Guymon developed around an agricultural center that became a regional market for goods from far-flung districts of the state of Oklahoma Territory. The town sprang up quickly because transportation within the community was by wagon or horseback and there were no roads within reach of most residents. By 1860, over 100 people lived in Guymon with about 60 businesses providing services to their citizens. In 1907, oil exploration began in Adair County and by 1911 production had reached 2 million barrels per day (bpd). With World War I raging throughout much of America, manyOklahoma farmers turned to commercial production as ways to help support their families during wartime shortages; this led to increased demand for goods produced in Guymon and other nearby towns including Jenks (now Jenks Estates), which developed into one of the largest cattle markets in the nation during this time period.. During World War II industries such as munitions manufacturing grew rapidly due to wartime needs for aluminum alloys needed for airplanes; also contributions from local farmers led to growth in farmingduring this time period as well.. In 1957 oklahoman Senor Ozburn defeated incumbent Republcan Tom Connally by less than 50% majority winnning 54 out of total 57 counties won by Ozburn; however Connally still held onto his congressional seat giving him another four years before losing renomination following November 3rd general election that year..Guymon made national news when televangelist Oral Roberts set up shop here starting Bible school back then known as Oral Roberts University which later became Answers In Christ Ministries
Guymon was founded in 1881 by Miles Carpenter and his wife, Emma. It was the first town in Oklahoma. The post office was established at Guymon in 1887. In 1907, the town became a city.
