Guymon, Oklahoma is a small town located in the east-central part of the state of Oklahoma. It was founded in 1907 by citizens of Guymon and other nearby communities. The community name refers to an Indian chief named Guymon who was known for his wisdom and strength. Gun sights history in Guymon begins with the construction of a local military post in 1907. At that time, gun sights were not yet common items on American battlefields. One reason for this may have been because they were seen as too dangerous to use on civilian areas where people were likely to be killed or injured if hit by them. However, over time, gun sights became more popular among military personnel and civilians alike due to their usefulness in target practice or hunting. In 1950, the first handgun permit was issued to a person living in Guymon when it became legal to possess handguns without prior registration. By that time, gun sights had become more commonplace on American battlefields and had been adopted by many police departments around the country as well.

A sight plane is the two lines that intersect at a right angle in your field of view, and they can be used to line up shots or dominate an area. Guymon was founded in 1907 by George A. Guymon and his family. The town developed as a railroad town, with the first train arriving in 1908. The town grew quickly, and by 1920 it had over 100 residents. In 1951, the city of Oklahoma City renamed Guymon its official name.

The name "Guymon" comes from Chief Guymon and his band of Sioux Indian warriors who fought against the United States in the 1876 Battle of Wounded Knee. Guymon was founded in 1881 by John Cockerill, a cattle rancher and politician from Haskell County, Kansas. At its peak in 1910, Guymon had a population of 3,814 residents. In recent years, the town's population has declined as many people have moved to other towns in Muskogee County or out of state. The first settler in what is now Guymon was John Fenton who filed a claim on November 10th, 1881 with US Land Office #2 at Reno OK Territory. On December 8th he named his community “Fentonville” after himself and his two brothers: James Fenton (1835-1907) and Nathaniel Fenton (1840-1912). The Townsite Survey for District No.-1shows that there were only 6 citizens living on October 17th, 1881 when it was surveyed……… Today there are few if any physical reminders remaining from those early days when settlers first arrived here…..the first post office opened here on October 17th 1881……….and mail service began between this place and Tulsa OK through Cowboys Express………….. As time passed more people came and more things were needed so about 1890 an agricultural store started up…………….By 1915 there were only 5 residents left…………….. but already some progress had been made as school was built………………………………In 1917 they erected their first high school building…………………………And 15 years later still today we still have that building………………………………With few exceptions all businesses closed down within about 25 years or so............. Most likely because technology changed so much then relative to what exists today………………………………Many residents moving out during this time also caused most businesses to close………..There wasn’t really anything left here after those times......... until recently when someone noticed some rocks backpacked around outside fence line...........That led to research which eventually resulted in creating this website
Gun sights date back to at least the early 1800s. The first true sighting devices, called “pin-fire sights,” were invented in 1795 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. These sighting devices consisted of a crosshair on an armillary sphere that could be rotated around its axis to adjust the aiming point. Because these devices required specific alignment and 6 different rotations per minute, they were unable to be used for long range shooting. The development of modern firearms in the late 18th century led to the introduction of iron sights. Iron sights were much more accurate than pin-fire sights and could be used for long range shooting. However, because iron sightsrequired constant alignment and needed to be calibrated against a known target, they were not as popular as pin-fireights. In 1854, John Brownell developed a sight that was both easier to use and more accurate than any other predecessor of today’s rifle sights. This sight was called an aperture sight and it consisted of a round hole in the focuser lens that allowed shooters to see what their target looked like while firing at short ranges. This new sight quickly became popular among gunners and is still in use today!

Guymon is a small town in Oklahoma, located on the Arkansas River. founded in 1907, it became a city in 1959. The population of Guymon was 382 as of the 2010 census. The first residents of what would become Guymon were two families from Missouri who crossed the river to look for land on the other side. They named their new town after their friend and business partner, Moncrief Hargrave, who had come to Oklahoma Territory with his family in 1867. earliest settlement at Guymon was made by farmers and ranchers who mined coal and built log homes around an irrigation canal that ran through the community. In 1907, when oil was discovered in nearby Anadarko County, businesses grew rapidly around the discovery of petroleum resources. People from all over Tulsa arrived to drill for oil. By 1915, oil production had stopped due to depletion of supplies and high prices; but the town continued to grow because many people found jobs surrounding the industry. In 1959, when Oklahoma City became its own city, Guymon decided that it would be better if it merged with its neighbor to the north – Moore – so both cities could have access to same social services and transportation infrastructure. But due to zoning laws set up by Oklahoma City planners at that time, this merger did not happen; instead, each city kept its own distinctive character until 1997 when they united under one administration as part of OKC's Comprehensive Plan goal of creating "a joined-up economy offering opportunities for everyone." The growth and success of downtown Oklahomans has led to several expansions within GYMON: addition of a grocery store (2005), health center (2007), apartments (2009), movie theater (2011) and full-service restaurant(2013). Downtown Oklahomans also erected a new public works garage which houses all aspects of municipal government including emergency services such as firefighting and law enforcement; development includes plans for more office towers surrounding’s downtown area as well as housing developments near I-40
