In 1901, a man named George F. Guymon patented the first bipod tripod in Guymon, Oklahoma. The bipod tripod was designed to improve military effectiveness by allowing soldiers to keep their rifles upright while canting them to fire. The invention helped lead to the development of modern artillery and combat vehicles.

Guymon has two public schools - Pioneer Elementary School and Indian Head Middle School - as well as a library, post office, grocery store, bank and several residences. There are also several small businesses located in town including A & W Texaco restaurant and Grocery Outlet, True Value Hardware Store, Allstate Insurance Agency and Summit Ford dealership. The only telephone service available in town is phone service from AT&T with access to Caller ID display and talk-time limits of 30 minutes each per day for most customers. Internet service is available through Comcast Xfinity from a few houses down the street from True Value Hardware Store which offers speeds of 100 Mbpsdownloads per second for $50/year or $10/month plus taxes. Guymon was founded in 1881 by men from eastern Arkansas and western Missouri. The first post office was established in 1886. In 1907, the town became a village and it was renamed Guymon in 1912 after Rear Admiral David Guymon, Jr., who had been commandant of the Naval Academy at Annapolis Maryland. The town’s economy has been based on ranching and farming since its establishment; however, industry has also played an important role in the town’s growth over time. In 1959, local businessmen formed the Frisco Company to develop various industries within the town limits including Refinery #1 (now known as Pinnacle) which manufactured gasoline and other products for automobiles and other industrial companies; Manufacturing Plant No 3 (now known as Midas); Storage Facility #2 (now known as Texaco); and Lumber Yard #3 (now known as Cabela’s). In recent years, Guymon has become home to several large retailers including Walmart,[1] Sears,[2] JCPenney,[3] Macy’s[4], Ikea,[5] Kmart[6], Sam's Club[7], Lowe’s Home & Hardware,[8], Delta Air Lines[9], UPS.[10] The largest employer in Guymon is Coca-Cola which operates its bottling plant there; it employs more than 2,000 people across fifteen departments. Other major employers include Pinnacle Energy Company with 850 employees; Walmart Supercenter with 467 employees; Cabela's Inc., Federated Petroleum Corporation with 350 employees; Lowes Home & Hardware Inc., Sears Holdings Corporation with 210 employees; Interstate Bancorp USA with 100 employees; PepsiCo Incorporated with 50 Employees
