The 1930s were tough for Guymon as World War II began. Businesses went out of business during the Depression, but by 1945 the community had recovered sufficiently to support an additional 500 residents. During World War II, ammo production increased as Japan began hostilities with America. In 1951, Guymon became home to the United States Military Academy at West Point which housed artillery ordnance manufacturing plants until 1957 when they moved to New York City. Ammo production dwindled during the 1960s as new technologies replaced older ones such as photography and videotape recording; however, it recommenced in 1978 with the construction of a new munitions plant called “Oklahoma’s Arsenal” that employed over 2200 workers at its peak years Output reached $1 billion dollars per year By 2006 It ceased operations due to competition from Chinese manufacturers Oklahoma’s Arsenal Ammunition Plant was built on land donated by John Hargrave who also donated 3 acres of land east of town on which he constructed a large factory devoted entirely to making armor-piercing rounds for both American (M1 Garand rifle) and British (Beretta M9A4 carbine) firearms using boron nitride propellant shells filled with black powder mixed with aluminum powder & wax

Guymon was founded in 1881 by white settlers who named it "Tulsa". The town grew rapidly during World War I due to its location on the edge of an ammunition dump used by the military. In 1920, Guymon became the county seat of Noble County after its predecessor, Muskogee, merged with neighboring Catoosa County. Today, Guymon remains a small town but has experienced significant growth in recent decades thanks to its proximity to Tulsa and its role as a center for agricultural production and industry. The community began developing as a cotton farming community during the early 1900s. After World War II, however, cotton production declined and other economic interests took over in Guymon. A major focus of local economic development has been retail trade since the late 1990s when Tulsa's downtown core emerged as an important shopping district. Today, many residents work in nearby Tulsa or Tulsa-region businesses such as Midway Airport or OK Retailers Incorporated (OKRI). As a result of this concentration of employment within close geographic proximity to each other, public transportation is necessary for most residents to get around town. However, access to public transportation is improved by two stations located just outside of town: one on State Highway 281 and another on OKI Boulevard near Interstate 44/Upper Canadian Road (I-44/Upper Canadian Rd.).

Guymon is a city in Stephens County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Stephens County. The first permanent settler in Guymon was John Drinkwater in 1881. The town was named for A.G. Guymon, a lawyer and politician who served as sheriff of Stephens County from 1907 to 1911 and as governor of Oklahoma from 1913 to 1921. Guymon consolidated with other Indian towns around it after an agreement made by the U.S. government to give land to each tribe for white settlement purposes ended when most Native Americans were pushed out of their homelands during the American Civil War (1861- 1865). The city's name is derived from French explorer Antoine de la Salle's recommendation that the French name for Stephens County be "Guyon." In 1887, when Oklahomans voted on Incorporation Bill No. 2 which would have created the city limits and changed its name to "Guymon," only 11% of residents participated because they did not receive ballots in time for mailing them; due to this low turnout, Soonville was chosen instead as the new municipal center and City Hall was built there in 1889 using lumber brought over by Mr. Drinkwater from his ranch near present day Wichita Falls, Texas where he had settled after traveling through Mexico on his way back home across America in 1846 looking for a route eastward across country The first post office opened at what is now Guymon on October 6th, 1907 under license number 6672 The first school year open in town was 1909-10 with Mrs Marguerite White teaching grades one through seven In 1912 Dr C H Harmon became headmaster/mistress while Mrs White taught until 1916 Mr Harmon left to become state superintendent of education In 1916 Mrs White retired after 40 years teaching and moved into her home which still stands today inside the old high school building . Classes were held outdoors until 1930 when indoor facilities were constructed including gymnasiums (1930-1932), auditorium (1934), science wing (1945), library wing (1966) and Today’s School District headquarters located within walking distance . On July 3rd 1920Oklahoma Statutes No 124 provided “That all schools erected or hereafter authorized shall be subject hereto as teachers qualifications requirements under this State Constitution” This law gave birth to Oklahoma State University on campus just north of downtown Tulsa
