The Guthrie Optical Instrument Corporation (GOIC) was a local optical equipment store that operated from 1948-1992. GOIC was founded by Don Guthrie and his brother, Harry. The store had two locations in Guthrie and one location in Yukon. At its peak, the store sold over 100 different types of optical products. GOIC was a major player in the early days of digital photography when it offered digital Eye-Fi cards which could be used with Canon EOS bodies to capture images and videos with your camera’s built-in electronic viewfinder. GOIC also became known for their high quality lenses, including those used on professional cameras like the Leica M8 and Panasonic Lumix GH4. In 1992, the company went out of business due to financial difficulties. Guthrie is a small town in Oklahoma, located about 20 miles south of Tulsa. Guthrie's population was 3,859 at the 2000 census. The Guthrie Museum of Art and Education is the largest art museum in west Oklahoma. The Guthrie plow plant was built in 1907 and closed in 1991. It now houses the OKC History Center. The town was named for Colonel George W. Guthrie, who served as an officer with the OKC Indian Department from 1885 to 1889 and as Secretary of War from 1889 to 1897. In 1906, the Guthrie Civic Building was completed and used by local officials until it burned down in 1957. A new civic building was constructed in 1962 and still uses this name today. Guthrie is an agricultural town in Payne County, Oklahoma, United States. Guthrie was founded in 1881 by John Guthrie and his family. It became a city on December 10, 1907. The Guthrie-Fayetteville Railroad reached the town in 1903. In 1925, Guthrie became the site of the first open-air gasoline station in the United States when it opened at Fourth Street and Central Avenue. The station was destroyed by fire in 1927 but its ruins still remain today as part of the downtown area of Guthrie. The population of Guthrie was 482 at the 2010 census. The town was once home to a major livestock market that operated from early morning until late night before moving to Tulsa during World's Fair daysadorated as an historical landmark by city officials and preservationists. A replica cattle market has been erected near Third Street and Central Avenue since 2007 for public display year-round; however, it does not operate currently due to low attendance numbers since it is no longer used for retail sales purposes or storage space for animals). Guthrie was a small town in Oklahoma prior to the American Civil War. It was located on the Limestone River, about 20 miles northeast of Guthrie and 30 miles east of Seminole. The community was founded in 1887 by William Guthrie, a pioneer settler, and his wife Margaret. The first post office was established in Guthrie in 1888. During the early years of the war, Guthrie became an important military staging ground for Union forces moving westward from Indian Territory. Many soldiers and their families settled here after being discharged from battle or fleeing from Confederate territory. In 1861, General Robert E. Lee encamped at Guthrie while he awaited reinforcements sent to help him fight against Ulysses S. Grant's army near Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 1865, following the Battle of Chickamauga Creek, General John Custer occupied this location as his headquarters during his later campaigns against Native Americans in central Oklahoma.
