The Guthrie Rifle Company was founded in 1907 by W.G. Guthrie and his brother-in-law, A.C. Payne, with the goal of creating a rifle that could be used for hunting and war purposes. The company produced its first rifles in 1909 and began sales in 1911. The Guthrie Rifle Company was purchased by Remington Arms Corporation in 1916, which changed the name to Remington Arms Corporation guns Ltd., before being sold to Browning Firearms Corporation in 1978.
Guthrie is a small town in Oklahoma, located on the edge of the rolling tumbleweeds that make up the Great Plains. The population was 1,695 as of the 2010 census. Guthrie is one of three towns in Muskogee County, and it is the county seat. The Guthrie area has been inhabited by Native Americans for centuries. The first European to set foot in what is now Guthrie was Captain James Ketchum in 1818. After his visit, traders and travelers began to arrive in greater numbers, and over time Guthrie became an important commercial center due to its location at the intersection of several routes. In 1872, local residents organized themselves into a town government under the name of Muskogee County. In 1907, Guthrie accepted an offer from President Theodore Roosevelt to become part of the U.S.–Mexico border state of Arizona; however, on November 16th 1907 he vetoed a bill granting annexation by Arizona because it did not include property within present-day Guthrie boundaries (the only major city within present-day Muskogee County). As a result of this veto, Guthrie became part of Oklahoma Territory. It wasn't until 1912 when Oklahoma Territory was divided into two parts – eastern Oklahoma went to Texas while central Oklahoma went to Kansas – that Guthrie received its own government with its own sheriff and courts system. During World War II, much effort was put into developing munitions production at nearby Cimarron Plant #1 which employed thousands of people directly or indirectly during both world wars (1914–1945). The plant closed down completely after World War II but left behind a significant community impact: numerous businesses still use Cimarron Plant #1 as their model for manufacturing processes today; four primary schools are located within walking distance of downtown; there are also several small businesses located around downtown which continue to operate unchanged since 1945; as well as dozens if not hundreds more housing units throughout town which were built thanks specifically to munitions employment at Cimarron Plant #1 and other surrounding areas during those years

Guthrie is a small town in north-central Oklahoma, United States. The Guthrie community was founded in 1907 by Scotsman Alexander Guthrie and his wife, Nannie. In 1928, the Guthries donated land to the city of Guthrie for use as a public square. The Guthries were residents of the town until their death in 1978. The first post office in Guthrie was established on November 12, 1907. The current post office building was built in 1958 and is located at 5th Street and Ottawa Avenue. The town's name comes from Hardeman County Seat of Hardeman County, which was located near where the community now stands. In 1928, the city of Guthrie purchased approximately 320 acres (12 km2) of land from the McKnight family for $1 million dollars (). This land served as the foundation for what became known as downtown Guthrie. On April 15, 1930, Mayor Wm.[sic] Fenton proclaimed that downtown Guthrie would be dedicated "to the people of this town who have worked so hard to make it what it is today." The first store opened in downtown Guthrie on May 3rd, 1930 (). At that time there were only four businesses within downtown: a grocery store (), bank (), Masonic Lodge () and an auto repair shop (). By 1935 there were twenty-six businesses within downtown; elevenof these businesses were owned by local citizens or residents thereof (). Of note are two restaurants - Ben & Jerry's ice cream parlor (opened in 1951) and Moe's Tavern (), both considered early icons of modern day Tulsa dining experiences (). In 1962-1964 construction began on what is now Main Street between First and Second Streets (); this project marked one of Tulsa’s most significant redevelopment initiatives during its late 20th century heyday(). During its first phase (1962-1964), Main Street saw heavy commercial development with over seventy storefronts opening along its length.; several large apartment complexes also sprang up along Main throughout this period (. Most notably Kingfisher Towers (), which currently occupy much unused space next to Interstate 35). However, due to limited financial resources at City Hall at that time certain projects failed to come to fruition such as plans for a new library addition on Broadway or an increase in parking availability; instead these facilities languished until later years when they finally underwent renovation/updating . Budget cuts ensuing from World War II led to some quick changes within municipal government with Downtown Ruthie becoming assistant manager/planner while Parks Department functions moved uptown;; however despite this shift many programs ran afoul of budget restraints eventually resulting in closures or mergers across departments-. Finally after more than fifty years Downtown Ruthie closed its doors effective December 1st 1985 following years plagued by low attendance rates combined with continued deterioration* . It should be noted that despite Downtown Ruthie’s closure it did not pave way for McAlester’s annexation intoexisting city limits*. Instead McAlester took steps such as constructing its own annexation road system making it easier for business owners westbound on main street access their properties eastward(* ). Today both neighborhoods remain largely separate although sidewalk communications exist between them albeit without direct access
