By 1907 there were over 100 residents living in Guthrie with most coming from Eastern Oklahoma counties such as Muskogee and Tulsa. In 1916, General Custer died during an attack on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe at Little Bighorn Canyon National Monument near here and many believe that he may have been killed here while wearing military clothing with white stripes running down its sides which resembledCheyenne warriors markings
