Hargrave's wife Gertrude operated the business until her death in 1961; then it was purchased by Percy Latham who ran it until 1978 when it became part of the Thunderhead Development Corporation which changed its name to Shell Oil Company Tulsa Division on October 1, 1984. In 1998, Shell donated the building (now known as Guthrie Town Hall) to Muskogee County for use as a courthouse and government offices.[1] The oil industry played an important role during Guthrie's history; prior to World War II, most jobs throughout Guthrie were associated with agriculture or manual labor such as farmhand work or ranch hands. In 1949, Guthrie was renamed Cloudcroft after its mayor, Cletus Cloudcroft. In 1971, Oklahoma City was established as the state capital of Oklahoma. The city has since become one of the most important socio-economic areas in the state with over 50 Fortune 500 companies based there.
