The shooting target holders history in Enid, Oklahoma can be traced back to 1928. The first Shooting Target Holder in Enid was W.S. Jansen who operated a shooting gallery on Second Street. From 1933-1935, the town's first post office held a monthly gun show where shooters could buy targets and use them at their shoots. In 1935, Mr. Jansen left town for unknown reasons and his target holder business went dormant until 1941 when Euphemia Hennessey started it up again as a family-owned business named Joe's Place Shooting Gallery on Fifth Street with her husband Joe Hennessey Jr.. In 1951, Mrs. Hennessey sold the business to Mr. and Mrs. Don Schieffer who continued it until 1975 when it passed down to their son Walt Schieffer who ran it until 1984 when he sold it to Harry Kaufmann who continues the business today as Kaufmann Shooting Range which is one of Enid's oldest businesses still in operation!
Enid is a town in the U.S. state of Oklahoma, located on the eastern edge of the Dust Bowl region. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The name "Enid" is derived from Kiowa word ənīg ( meaning "place where trees grow"). It was first used in 1892 during an effort to find a new site for a railroad line between Fort Gibson and Guthrie. Enid was platted on May 24, 1893, by members of the territorial legislature as part of the east side west project. A post office called Enid had been established in 1892, and remained in operation until 1907. In 1907, it became apparent that growth would not be possible at its original site due to lack of water supply or space for housing development; instead, Enid developed along Railroad Avenue northeastward into what is now Tulsa County. The city has grown rapidly since then and now spans over , making it one of America's largest city-counties blends with rural neighborhoods within easy reach throughout most of its territory including parts that were once just farmland . The city is the county seat of Stephens County and was founded on November 15, 1907 by Enid residents George W. Shaver and his wife Alma Fenton Shaver. The first post office in Enid was established on December 12, 1907. In 1912, the town annexation by Stephens County occurred and it kept its name until 1925 when it changed to Enid Township. On January 1, 1934 Dewey Davenport became Mayor of Enid after being elected as a Democrat from District 5 in that year's general election On December 3rd of that year the City Council voted to change their name to Enid Municipal Corporation effective January 1st of 1935 under which time they have been known as such ever since. On October 2nd of 2007 an ordinance passed by the City Council allowing for retail liquor stores to open in downtownEnid had positive reaction with many people believing that this would bring more business into downtown than had previously been allowed due to prohibition laws
