By 1906, there were at least 30 pistols available for purchase within the town limits. holster stores were also established within the town by this time too, which helped increase handgun availability even further. Today, gun ownership is still common among locals in Enid – it is one of the few things that makes this small community feel safe and comfortable during these tough times. The town is named after Enid Blythe, who was a naturalist and writer in the early 20th century. The first settlers in Enid were white men from Kentucky, who arrived in 1885. They set up a homestead on what is now State Highway 95. The name "Enid" was chosen for its similarity to an Indianaite girl's name, Clarissa. In 1907, Enid was incorporated as a village and has since grown into a vibrant community with over 10,000 residents. Over 80% of Enid's economy comes from agriculture; it is home to two major grain elevators and five other businesses that account for 60% of the town's GDP. One of the most important aspects of life in Enid are its public schools which serve students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. With nearly $27 million dollars spent by local taxpayers on school systems in 2009-10 alone, Enid boasts one of the most comprehensive education systems in Oklahoma. Enid, Oklahoma is a city in east-central Oklahoma, United States. The population was 6,865 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1907 by George W. Armstrong and named for his wife Enid, who had been born in 1881 in the town of that name about 20 miles (32 km) southeast of the city. At first it was a small farming community with a single store and only two residents; but over time it grew into an agricultural center with a population of 10,000 in 1940. The city has since become one of the most important commercial and industrial centers within eastern Oklahoma. Enid is located on the Arkansas River near its confluence with the Canadian River and is surrounded by farmland which has been developed into housing developments, factories, services businesses, parks and other public uses. The town was originally known as Armstrong City because George Armstrong had purchased land there in 1907 to build what became Enid Hall School and other buildings for local farmers. In 1912 the town became part of Cherokee County when that county was created from parts of Tulsa County and Osage County. However, because Indian Territory at the time included much of modern day Oklahoma City area as well as parts of Tulsa County including Armstrong City proper, Cherokee County continued to be used as an administrative location for all aspects related to Native American Indians living within its boundaries until 1907 when it merged into Tulsa County effective November 1st that year under then Territorial governor James Fenton Gantt’s plan to create more centralized government throughout Oklahoma Territory following earlier efforts by territorial legislators to gain statehood for Creek Nation (Oklahoma today). Although some people refer to Enid as being located “somewhere between Tulsa and McAlester” due primarily to its distant location relative to those cities historically (in terms of population), Armstrong City actually lay within present-day Tulsa Municipality which at that time consisted mostly of downtown areas barely touching Riley Parkway westward while north/south Central Avenue stretched all the way down Payne Street separating Greenwood Village from eastbound Business Park Drive etc., making it difficult if not impossible for residents inside or outside Tulsa Township even remotely close enoughto see or experience anything resembling their fellow citizens residing somewhere else apart from occasional visits during fairs/ tournaments sponsored by various municipalities therein – let alone investment opportunities or business ventures worth considering beyond simply walking/driving around! In 1941Armstrong moved his company headquarters from Manila Heights south across I-40W towards McAlester after years managing Des Moines paper supplies company Canwest Paper Co through their subsidiary Western Paperhangers before becoming CEO there after merging Canwest’s operations with Wickersham Paper & News Company effective January 1st 1942 prior thereto becoming head office tenant at then new McAlester Civic Center just off War Memorial Boulevard thereafter leading Elgin Cottonseed Producers along Payne Street past Kingfisher Air Force Base USAF hangars adjacent thereto prior now defunct Western Steel Fabricators / Wire Factory #2 just eastbound US 74 heading northeast towards McAlester Municipal Airport thenceforth providing support services thereto associated therewith flyover ramps directly onto runway edge bordering airport property herein using original runways currently still visible although terrain has changed substantial amount over years encompassing: main taxiway extending south parallel runway edge + several hundred feet long additional passengeramputation bay extending southwest parallel runway edge approximately 250 feet long former Parcel A airport boundary abutting Main Terminal Building Lot size 3 acres +/- lots presently undeveloped lot sizes available upon request
