By 1930, when Oklahoma statehood was granted to Oklahoma Territory by Congress under pressure from President James Kossuth because he felt that Kansas had already taken too much territory for its own people without due process of law,[2] Enid had become one of territorial OKLAHOMA's most important cities with over 20 businesses catering to travelers coming through its door seeking their various fortunes: health care products from Mayo Clinic; sleeping accommodations during travel; flour from Parsons-Doherty mill; gasoline for autos; agricultural goods from Weyerhaeuser Bros., Hughes Seed & Feed Co., etc.;[3] mining products including lead ore mined by Snyder Brothers Minerals & Oil Co.; lumber bought wholesale either directly or indirectly from Eastern Lumber Co., Western Lumber Company [4] etc.; Among these many providers were national firms making items like vacuum cleaners,[5] radios,[6][7][8][9][10] automobiles[11], appliances[12][13], clothing[14],[15], tools[16], cars[17][/18],[19][/20]. There wasn't even until after World War II when business started to decline locally because so many companies moved out West during that time period but Enid slowly rebuilt itself thanks to a number of initiatives led by Mayor John Skelton which included creating new streets gridwise rather than following older street grids which contributed to increased vehicular traffic flow downtown.[21] Today's thriving economy owes much to residents' desire for quality job opportunities within easy reach while still maintaining their high standards of living – citizens who are committed to family values combined with entrepreneurialism - something that has always been characteristic of this vibrant community.[22][23][/24][/25][/26]}

In 1949, voters approved a new city charter which madeEnid an official city with its own police department and fire department along with other various municipal services such as trash collection and streetlights being turned on at night! With this change came new opportunities for development with entrepreneurs starting companies that catered to different interests within Enid including health care (the first hospital in town opened its doors in 1951), real estate (the first apartment complex opened its doors in 1953), transportation (the first bus stop opened its doors just south of town center) and more!
