On October 1st 1984 when newly elected Mayor Tom Payne announced plans for downtown redevelopment with office tower construction only one block west on Tenth StreetNW remaining undeveloped the community rallied around him pledging support helping turn that area into an exciting new destination for shoppers and residents alike! In celebration of this milestone development many brand new restaurants including Joe’s Crab Shack opened their doors making downtown yet another highly anticipated tourist attraction for both locals and visitors alike!
