Elk City is a small town in Logan County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 2,566 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. Elk City is located on the fringes of Tulsa and its suburbs. The first people to live in what is now Elk City were Native American tribes who hunted and fished in the area for many years before white settlers arrived in the early 1800s. A post office was established in 1879, and by 1888 there were ten buildings in town. By 1912, there were twenty-one buildings and a population of 350 people. In 1907, Senator Lionel Wigfall offered a $2,000 grant to build a high school in town which would become known as Wigfall High School (now Elk City Community College). The townspeople raised enough money to complete the project which opened its doors on September 1, 1913. At that time it was one of only two high schools open for students outside Tulsa proper. The school operated until 1978 when it merged with Tulsa State Teachers College to form TPTC/ELK CITY COMMUNITY COLLEGE which still operates today! One of the earliest businessesestablishing itself within Elk City was Hennepin Grain Elevator which started out as a grocery store back in 1907! Today HENNEPIN GRANARY remains an important part of our community with over 100 employees! Another early business that played an integral role within our community was THE LYNCHED HEADS BAR & GRILL where Ira Sledge served as owner/operator from 1951-1978! He is widely considered one of Tulsa's most influential entrepreneurs! In recent years ELK CITY has seen some exciting new development such as SONIA'S BAKERY & GRILL serving up delicious family style meals since they opened their doors back in 2016! We can't wait to see what else this vibrant little corner of Tulsa has to offer our residents over the next few years!

Elk City is a small city in east-central Oklahoma, United States. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of JeffCo and part of the Haskell County metropolitan area. Elk City was founded in 1881 by settlers from Illinois, who named their new town for elk that had been abundant near their farmsteads on the Arkansas River. The first post office in Elk City was established in 1881. In 1907, it became the capital of Haskell County after its creation from parts of Butler and Wood counties. The city's population peaked at 10,000 in 1925 but has since declined to around 7,500 today. One early resident of Elk City was banker Wm Hurlbut Sr., who opened his initial bank account there on July 4th, 1881. After years of growth and development as an agricultural center for eastern Oklahoma due to its fertile soils and access to water resources, Elm Creek Reservoir (now known as Wildlife Lake) was completed nearby in 1923. With improved irrigation methods and more land devoted to agriculture following World War II,[1] Elm Creek Reservoir quickly became one of the most important fisheries facilities in the region;[2] during this time also saw increased development around downtown Elk City with storefronts becoming popular tourist destinations which continue up until present day. The decline in population during the late 1990s and 2000s can be attributed largely to a variety of factors including stricter gun control laws enacted after 9/11%, joblessness rates across much of rural America,[3],[4],[5],[6] along with an overall decrease in disposable income throughout much of North America due to dwindling economic opportunities.[7][8] However, some landlord groups have recently started working together to revive downtown Elk City's economy through marketing efforts such as event rentals or retail space within walking distance from various cultural activities like art galleries or music shows taking place Downtown each weeknight during busy tourist season
