After the war ended, many residents returned to their homes while others moved into other towns within Muskogee County or away from Central Oklahoma altogether due to lack of jobs or affordable housing. However, over time more people have come back to live in El Reno thanks to various economic opportunities available here such as agriculture ( notably corn), manufacturing ( chiefly oil production), service industry (employment growth has been steady since 2000), education (particularly technical/trade schools), and retail businesses; all of which have helped contribute greatly to its current community spirit and growth potential. Today there are approximately 12 elementary schools including Northside Elementary School with 9th through 11th grades located just east of I-40 on US 271 south of Hwy 169; Westside Intermediate School with 10th through 12th grades located east off I-40 on Waverly Road between US 271 & Clinton Road; Southside High School with 13th through 17th grades located west off I-40 on South Main Street between HWY 277 & US 287; Parkview Middle School serving students from 8th through 12th grade located across from Roosevelt Cemetery on Elmwood Drive south of HWY 169; Lakeside Career Center serving students from 6th through 8th grade across from Lighthouse Restaurant on Airport Boulevard east of HWY 169; Heritage Technology Academy providing instruction for pre-kindergarten thru 4 th grade students along Avenue Q north of HWY 169 - all situated around one large park that includes basketball courts volleyball courts soccer fields horseshoes track & field Abilities Day camp
