El Reno, Oklahoma is home to the oldest gun lock factory in the world. The original El Reno Gun Locks Factory was established in 1903 by Hiram Jennings and his son, Frank Jennings. The company made and sold pistols and shotguns as well as a variety of other firearms products. In 1934, the company merged with another firearm manufacturer, Wm. Fenton & Sons, to form Wm. Fenton Firearms Manufacturing Company Incorporated. The company manufactured handguns until 1977 when it was closed down due to financial problems. Other significant landmarks include courthouse square (1892), Methodist Episcopal Church (1902), First Baptist Church (1912), Union Pacific Railroad Depot (1920), Masonic Lodge No 1 (1920), Pruitt’s Pharmacy Building (1932) and Cherokee Ballroom & Hotel-Oklahoma Centennial Exposition Hall complex (1986).
