Ammunition history in El Reno, Oklahoma began with the first shot fired from a gun in the area on December 4, 1892. That day, Harry Pryor and his father-in-law Dave Haberfeld fired a six-shot salute to Santa Claus from an old black powder rifle at a Christmas party. The next year saw the opening of the first local shooting range in town. Colonel John Hinton opened up his ammo store on Main Street in 1895. The store is still open today and provides many different types of ammunition products for sale. The city of El Reno was founded by settlers in 1907. The city was named after Major General George Armstrong Custer who fought during the American Civil War. Many businesses and institutions were established within the city limits during this time including: the First National Bank (1907), Purdy's Boot Shop (1911), W N Wade's Cigar Store (1913), Manuel's Saloon (1945), and now Hinton Ammo Store(1995). During World War II, ammunition production increased significantly due to wartime demand. In 1945, munitions company Hinton Ammunition became one of several nonprofit corporations that were formed to produce munitions for use in WW2 under direction of United States Strategic Bombing Survey Director Dr Stratton Farnsworth Jr.. Hinton Ammunition continued to produce munition throughout WWII until it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester Incorporated on October 15, 1946. The post-WWII years saw some significant changes for El Reno as well as other communities within southwest Oklahoma City metropolitan area that experienced rapid population growth following World War II. On November 2nd, 1957, El Reno incorporated as an unincorporated community following approval by its governing body which consisted of aldermen Charles J Lewis and Ozzie McDonald; Mayor Burt Latham approved the incorporation decision minutes later On February 12th, 1958 residents elected Art Watterson mayor following his win over incumbent Bob Doleman Watterson served two terms as mayor before stepping down effective May 1st, 1980 due to term limits set forth by statute when he reached age 70 years old

El Reno is a city in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 21,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Muskogee County and the home to many businesses and services that support its citizens. The city was founded in 1881 by John Sibley and William Sibley as a trading post on the same land where today's El Reno Municipal Airport is located. The name "El Reno" comes from Spanish for "the place where you can see the river." In 1881, when it was founded, El Reno was located just east of what is now downtown Muskogee. A post office called El Reno was established in 1882, and remained in operation until 1907. The first store built in town was operated by J. Hobert Wigglesworth. In 1907, Oklahoma statehood were granted to both Muskogee County and Oklahomana Territory; El Reno became part of Oklahoma City on January 1, 1907. At that time it had a population of 10 people; by 1910 its population had grown to 21 people! By 1915 it had increased to 25 people! During World War I (1914-18), El Reno served as an artillery ammunition depot for the US army stationed in Iraq/Syria as part of the American Expeditionary Force fighting against Ottoman Turks; during this time it also housed a munitions plant run by Shell Oil Company which manufactured TNT shells! In 1942 Tulsa turned over control of Muskogee County - including El Reno - to Tulsa Mayor Fenton Robinson without any warning or vote on either side of the aisle! Over 100 years later all vestiges remains remaining from when OKC took over our community are still there today waiting for you all collectively known as 'Tulsa Do Gone'.

Kern and his wife Emmalee. The first post office in El Reno was established on February 14, 1881, by J.A. Kern and wife Emmalee. The name "El Reno" was chosen because it sounded like an Indian word meaning "the place where the water runs clear." In 1907, William Ewing organized the town of El Reno into a municipality with a mayor and nine council members. On January 1, 1909, the town became part of Muskogee County when it was created from portions of Dawson City and Wichita Falls counties. The first school in El Reno opened in 1881 as a one-room school with six students taught by Mrs Kern and Mr Hargrave (Mr Kern's brother). In 1888 the school moved to what is now First Baptist Church on Main Street which served as its permanent home until 1906 when it moved again to Elmira Schoolhouse which served as its temporary home for three years before becoming permanently known as First Baptist Church Municipal Building on Park Avenue in 1912. A new court house was completed in 1917 and named for Judge Augustus Pogue who had been elected president of the United States that year; Pogue had also served as justice of the peace for Muskogee County from 1886 to 1897 inclusive (although he did not serve during that time frame). After World War I ended, many businesses closed due to lack of demand or competition from other cities within Oklahoma City; however, several small businesses reopened after prohibition began in 1920 including Bernie's barbershop which continued operation until 1984; back then it was called "Bernie's Barber Shop". A new library opened in 1923 at 124 S Broadway which housed both public schools and two branch libraries operated by Tulsa Libraries District No 8 which included El Reno before their merger into Tulsa Library District No 9 effective July 1st 1965 following passage of OKL 3500 (Public Libraries Act). The building sat vacant until 1978 when it became property of Muskogee Arts Council while still used occasionally for concerts/fundraisers etc.; currently houses city hall services & meeting rooms In 1931 local resident Oral Roberts donated land adjacent to historic Fort Worth Hotel located on North Jeff Davis Boulevard west of US 65 opposite Osage Hills Road for use as a park - todayFort Worth Park Reserve adjacent to downtown El Reno

The city was founded in 1881 as a small civilian town on the edge of what is now McAlester and El Reno counties by settlers from Illinois. The first post office was established in 1882. In 1889, the town became an incorporated village and in 1907 it became a city. The name "El Reno" originated from ranchers who called the area "the range." In 1908, Wernher von Braun set up his rocket research laboratory at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico after winning a government contract to design rockets for US war efforts against Spain during World War I. Von Braun and his assistants built two large rockets—the A-4 (1948) and A-5 (1949)—in El Reno before their deaths in 1957 and 1954 respectively. After they died, their work fell into disrepair until 1980 when private interests bought the property and started restoration work which continues to this day
