Edmond is a city in the U.S. state of Oklahoma and the county seat of Stephens County. The population was 21,711 at the 2010 census, making it the ninth-most populous city in Oklahoma. The history of Edmond goes back to 1874 when territorial Fort Gibson was established on the present site of downtown Edmond and other parts of what is today Stephens County were annexed by the US in 1907 as part of a larger land grab by President Theodore Roosevelt to include allOklahoma Territory into his new United States Of America. In 1907, violence broke out between white farmers and Indian tribes over control of oilfields discovered near Tulsa, which led to shootouts between law enforcement and tribal leaders known as "The Great Sioux War". The US military arrived in time to quell this violence but also helped set up government institutions such as schools and post offices in what are now DowntownEdmond, Yukon Heights (now north side), Northwestside (now east side), Northgate (now south side) and Southgate (now west side). As Oklahoma Territory grew increasingly Republican under Territorial Governor James Hancey, local Democrats became more powerful within state government until they gained complete control after Oklahoman Isadore Duncan resigned from office following an impeachment trial that began in 1907. In 1911 Tulsa City Councilman Charles Fenton developed plans for developing downtown Tulsa into an eastern annex for Edmond but these plans were thwarted by Duncan's successor as Territorial Governor David Lillie who instead merged both cities into one municipality with centralized zoning authority effective on July 1st 1912 . In 1935, Mayor George Custer called for bids for construction of new city hall - one of several ambitious projects launched by his administration during his terms as mayor (1935-39). This project was eventually completed under Custer's successor Harry Elmer Barnes (1939-1945). During their terms as mayors, both Barnes and Mayor John Noland made significant contributions to downtown Edmonds infrastructure including funding for street repairs; erecting new buildings such as library facilities; creating new parkland; expanding bus service; improving water quality;and creating new Cultural attractions like the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra House (now known as First United Presbyterian Church). Formerly known simply as Municipal Hall #2 following its donation from businessman John Edward Gadsden in 1938), today it houses both municipal courts (#1 & #3) along with offices for departments including planning & design services (#4), engineering services (#5), public works (#6), law enforcement services (#7), fire protection services (#8), Parks & Recreation Services (@9), emergency management (@10)and social welfare (.11). After World War II ended hostilities in Europe there was significant demand among American citizens living abroad for jobs available back at home – especially those located near military bases overseas which were experiencing shortages due to war materiel shortages at home. With this demand came increased interest among businesses interestedin locating within our nation’s borders – specifically southeastern OKC suburb Osage Beach which had been rapidly growthin population since 1915 when it was just 8 people strong! By 1948 Osage Beach had annexed much area east side Of main street between US 24W/24R & I‑40West becoming “Edmund Beach” annexed on Jan 1st 1948 thru ordinance passed by Bldg Committeewoman Mrs Margie Weems
