American Arms Corporation manufactured pistols, rifles, shotguns, ammunition, and other firearms in Edmond until it merged with Winchester Ammunition Corporation in 1972. This led to a recession that swept across America at this time. As a result of these policies, many small businesses closed their doors throughout Oklahoma City while other companies went out of business entirely. Many people lost their jobs during this time period and were forced to sell their homes or move away from their towns because there wasn't enough money available to support them
Edmond was founded in 1907 by entrepreneur, F.W. Beall and his wife, Anna Belle Beall. The town became a center for cattle ranching and farming, and its economy shifted to manufacturing after World War II. In the late 1990s, Edmond began experiencing a renaissance as a bedroom community for Tulsa. Today, it is an important cultural and commercial center in Oklahoma City.

Edmond, Oklahoma is a city in the United States located on the OU campus in Edmond. The population was 54,567 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tulsa County. The area now known as Edmond was settled by American Indians in the 1790s and 1800s. The first white settler in what is now Edmond was John Fenton, who purchased land from the Muskogee Nation in 1801. In 1827, James Ketchum founded what would become Tulsa City on land that he had purchased from the Muskogee Nation. The town quickly grew and became a center for commerce and education; it also played an important role in Native American resistance to European settlement. In 1907, Oklahoma statehood were granted toOklahoma Territory; Edmond became its capital. However, until 1914,Edmond lacked any public services or infrastructure that could support an expanding population—a situation which began to change when OU began construction of its new engineering school (now called Norman). With growing industry and population growth within Oklahoma Territory,Edmond developed into one of its most important cities; it also became home to many of the region's largest businesses and organizations including oil exploration companies such as Phillips Petroleum Company and Gulf Oil Corporation. In 1940, OKC annexed much of Tulsa County including most of downtown; this annexation caused some tension between these two communities because downtown Edmonds status as both OKC's business district and county seat depended on Tulsa County government still providing essential services within their boundaries. Despite this obstacle,OKC's decision to annex Downtown helped spur economic development throughout much of Tulsa County while causing little issue for citizens living elsewhere within city limits (although some downtown residents did experience increased traffic congestion). Since then, many major renovations have been made to DowntownEdmonds – most notably Hurricane Katrina’s damage which forced Mayor David Boren to declare a state of emergency during landfall making available free parking and other resources necessary for reconstruction efforts; however temporary effects continue well into 2018 with testaments from locals about how “DowntownEddie never stopped ticking” even after multiple hurricanes hit their community several times over ensuing years(including Irma & Harvey).
