It grew rapidly during the 1920s and 1930s as a result of its location at the crossroads of major east-west highways. In 1933, Edmond became an organized municipality with a mayor-council government. It experienced economic growth following World War II as a result of new job opportunities created by the military and industrial sectors. During the late 1960s through early 1970s, Edmond experienced significant social changes due to the arrival of waves of immigrants from Mexico and Latin America. By 1975, however, Edmond had regained most of its former prosperity and was considered one of the most Anglo-centric cities in Oklahoma. At present, Edmond remains one of the fastest growing cities in Oklahoma; it has seen population growth over 10% each year since 2000

Edmond is a city in central Oklahoma, United States. It was founded by the families of Englishmen who had been forced to leave their homes during the American Civil War. The city was named after Edmund Rice, a U.S. Representative from Texas and one of the leaders of the Oklahoma Constitutional Convention that formulated the state's new Constitution in 1907. The City Council first met on November 3, 1907 and began proceedings with: "In order that our citizens may be better situated for carrying on their Official duties we decree that this meeting be held at 7 p.m." In 1912, when Oklahoma became an independent nation, Edmond became its capital. The current City Hall was built in 1955 and has been used as such since then. The history of Edmond can be traced back to 1892 when two families from Canada decided to start a small town in what is now downtown Edmond just east of US-60 (now I-35). They named it Westville after their home province of Ontario, Canada; but soon realized they needed more than just a name for their new community because they would need to provide housing and schools for themselves and their children if they were going to have any hope of succeeding as a town. So they bought land west of US-60 on which they erected buildings closest to the road so people could access them without having to go out into town or take walks around campus type things - something that wasn't always easy given how big Tulsa had become! And so it grew...and grew... until finally there were too many people in Westville for anyone but full time merchants/farmers/etc., etc., actually wanted anything to do with it! So Westville reverted back to its original Canadian name once again! But don't forget about those pioneers who started everything - thank goodness for them because without them little Edmond would never have grown up! In 1906, when Tulsa got its own charter government,Edmond applied for incorporation as well; but was denied because there were only six residents living within five miles of the proposed city limits! That didn't stop Mayor Denton From trying though - he convinced Commissioners Cramer and McKay (then members of Tulsa's Board Of Education)to give him another try because he knew that if Edmond could get its act together it could quite easily overtake Tulsans in terms of population size before long! And so it did…albeit slowly at first due largely to lackadaisical attitudes among some residents about getting involved with municipal life beyond simply providing basic needs like water supply, lighting, trash collection etc.; but eventually enough people woke up and started Politics Asusual took off that Edmond quickly emerged as one of Tulsa's most vibrant communities – second onlymaybe evento downtown Tulsa itself! Today’sEdmund has experienced great growth over the past few decades thanks largely to efforts by entrepreneurial entrepreneurs such as Jeffery Weyersbach who opened his successful restaurant “The Oklahoman” adjacent toowntown Plaza late last decade; Curtis Frazier who developed Midtown which contains several high end retailers including Saks Fifth Avenue Jewelry & Watch Co.; Johnnie Hardie Jr./Johnnie Hardie III real estate developers whose projects include Alterra Place housing developments nearthe University district along I-35W; plus numerous other businesses and individuals whose names we cannot mention here today without risking offending either party or both – all working together towards making sure that everyone knows “Edmonds First”!!!
Edmond was founded in 1879 as a post office and general store. The town grew rapidly after the opening of the OK State Line Railroad in 1886, and by 1907, it had over 10,000 residents. In 1912, Edmond became the capital of Oklahoma.
