Edmond is a city in Oklahoma, United States. The population was 2,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Edmond was George Cockrell in 1867. He and his wife, Jane, founded a trading post on the east side of the Arkansas River. In 1875, James Nance built anadobe cabin near present-day Edmond Municipal Airport. In 1907, J.B. Durant bought land adjacent to what is now downtown Edmond and began developing it as a housing subdivision called "Dearborn Heights". Dearborn Heights became one of Oklahoma's most affluent neighborhoods and eventually included large tracts of property along Woodward Avenue in Tulsa's central business district. In 1925, Mayor Moberly dedicated the new OK Corral County Courthouse complex at Fourth Street and Payne Avenue to seat 100 judges statewide; this was the first courthouse complex in Oklahoma City proper and remains its only active use today (it has been used for civic events since 1974). "Oklahoma City" formally began functioning as an incorporated town on January 1, 1907 when settlers from Prattville located west of Tulsa voted to incorporate as that city under state law; however, little changed until 1909 when Durant moved Oklahomans from Prattville eastward into what is now downtown Tulsa to establish "Oklahoma City proper".
