Edmond is a town in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 5,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Area. The name "Edmond" means 'place of peace'. The first settlers in what is now Edmond were farmers who went to Kansas Territory in 1871. They brought their cows and pigs with them and started a small community on the banks of the Arkansas River near present-day Tulsa. In 1881, they moved to what is now east side of town and founded Plaza City. By 1907, they had relocated to what is now south side of town and built their current home there in 1909. In 1920, they annexed north side of town which made them one municipality with a population exceeding 10,000 people. On July 15th, 1907, by an act entitled "An Act To Establish Public Schools In Edmonds," it was voted that all boys high school students attending schools within limits included in said city must attend public schools; this law has been unchanged since then. A fire destroyed much of Plaza City on October 25th 1914[1], but due to heroic efforts by citizens (many working from homes) & firefighters the entire city was rebuilt within only four months[2]. On October 25th 1914,[3], a large fire destroyed most of Plaza City after causing widespread damage from arson throughout the night as people worked from their homes to help put out the flames while also providing food for local residents who were still living in tents or makeshift shelters that had been set up around town during wintertime. Despite this massive loss (the largest such blaze ever recorded in Muskogee County), Edmonds’ response was exemplary – both physically and emotionally – as citizens quickly rebuilt nearly everything using local materials and labor without any outside assistance or support; this “Plaza City spirit” continues today even though many residents have passed away since then! In 1945 when World War II began hostilities against Japan increased rapidly across many parts of America,[4] Edmonds became one of several towns in Muskogee County that chose not to participate[5]. On December 7th 1945[6], mayor Harry Padden announced that “No person will be drafted into military service until we know for certain whether war exists” following testimony before Congress investigating post-war Reconstruction policies.[7] As a result (and possibly because few other Muskogee County municipalities volunteered), Edmonds remained largely uninvolved during wartime; however, events took an ominous turn on June 14th 1946 when Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor[8]: immediately afterward Mayor Padden called for all men aged 17 years or older between the ages of 19 and 50 years old without dependents to registration at his office beginning at 6 am sharpEST so he could provide necessary supplies for those affected by war-time rationing activities which would continue well into 1947! Although initially successful at limiting civilian casualties,[9][10] rationing eventually led to major problems such as food shortages which impacted every facet of life including education and healthcare: resultant social unrest helped lead to enactment (in 1949) Of Oklahoma Statutes Anno 47 §101 et seq., which established governmental control over all private industry within muskogee county! From then until its abolition effective January 1st 1959,[11] Edmond experienced periodic waves OF political unrest culminating with two mayoral terms dominated by controversial candidates who unsuccessfullyAttemptedTo SuppressThe truth aboutEdmond Municipal Corruption sanctioned byOklahoma Legislature .
