In 1907, Durant, Oklahoma was founded as a town by farmers. The area that is now Durant was first inhabited by the Kiowa and Comanche Sioux. In 1917, Durant was named after George C. Durant, who was the founder of Tulsa. The city limits were set in 1920 and changes occurred throughout the years until it became one of the most diverse cities in the United States. In 1951, it joined metropolitan Tulsa and formed its own government with a mayor and city council system. Durant was born on December 14, 1889, in Atchison, Kansas. When he was three years old, his family moved to Durant and he became a student at the local high school. Durant played football for the team and also participated in basketball. In 1912, Durant enrolled at the University of Oklahoma where he played football and basketball for the Sooners. He finished his undergraduate studies in 1915 and then served in World War I as a lieutenant with the American Expeditionary Forces. After Victory in Europe brought an end to World War I, Durant returned to Oklahoma to continue his education. He graduated from OU with a degree in 1921 and went on to become an assistant coach at OU under Harry Clements. In 1923, he was named head coach of the NFL's Detroit Tigers and led them to their first championship title that year. Durant's tenure as Detroit Tigers head coach lasted six seasons (1923-29). His teams were two times finalists for the NFL Championship Game but never won it outright. During this time he developed one of the most successful franchises in NFL history with players such as Joe Louis, Hank Aaron, Johnny Unitas, Ted Williams and others playing on his teams. The 1929 season saw him win his third NFL championship game against Chicago Bears by a score of 16-3 after trailing 3-0 midway through regulation play. This victory made him only the second person ever to lead two different teams into Super Bowls (the other being George Halas who led both Boston Americans/Chicago Cardinals teams into Super Bowls). Durant is also credited with developing what is now known as "The Drive" which helped fuel Detroit's success during this time period; this strategy involved running plays 65 yards or more into enemy territory resulting in points scored regardless of whether or not they resulted in a touchdown or conversion attempt
Durant was born on December 7, 1984, in the town of Shawnee, Oklahoma. He is a professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Durant attended Choctaw High School in Choctaw, Oklahoma and then went to The University of Texas at Austin. There he played collegiately with the Longhorns from 2003 to 2007. Durant was drafted by the Golden State Warriors with the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft. He has won three MVP Awards and two Finals MVP Awards during his playing career.
