Durant, Oklahoma is a city of over 150,000 people that is located in the east-central part of the United States. The city was founded in 1907 by Arthur Durant and his wife, Edith. The Durant Chamber of Commerce is the oldest continuously operating business in the city. The chamber was founded on December 3, 1887. The first gun store in Durant was the Second National Gunstore, which opened its doors on February 24, 1896. The first rifle shop in Durant was the Western Armory, which operated from 1907-1914. In 1916, the First National Rifle Association (FNRA) moved to Durant from Tulsa and assumed management of both businesses.From 1917 until 1951, the FNRA operated a machine shop adjacent to their headquarters at 9th and L Streets NE. This Shop manufactured parts for firearms including rifles, shotguns and pistols.In 1951, ownership of both businesses passed to Armoury Supply Company who continued to operate them until 1984 when they closed their doors for good.

Durant was a small town in Oklahoma before the late 1800s. The first white person to live there, George A. Durant, arrived in 1881. He operated a grocery and post office in the town for about thirty years before selling the business to his brother-in-law, James W. Drake. In 1907, Durant had its first court house built and became an important center of local government. In 1912, it also got its own newspaper, The Durant News. From 1925 until 1959, it served as the capital of Oklahoma County. Durant is now known primarily for its basketball team which has won over 100 professional championships and developed several notable players including Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant Jr..
Durant was born on December 6, 1984 in Durant, Oklahoma. He played high school basketball at the University of Oklahoma and then went on to play professionally with the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors won two NBA championships in his career, one in 2003 and one in 2017.
