City Donnie Durant was born in Durant, Oklahoma on December 6, 1955. His father, George, a truck driver and Nascar racer, died when Durant was only six years old. Durant’s mother, Rena (Lopez), did all she could to raise Donnie and his two sisters by herself. She worked as a maid and cook at local families’ homes while also trying to keep their family together during tough times. That is until the day her husband left her for another woman. Rena later became pregnant with Donnie’s brother Dale and quickly found work at a nearby chemical plant to support them both. In 1978, after years of hard work and determination, Donnie earned his high school diploma from McAlester High School in McAlester, Oklahoma. The next year he played football for the McAlester Golden Eagles football team as a linebacker before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin where he played safety for coach Darrell Royal’s UT Longhorns football team from 1980-1983. During that time frame Durant helped lead UT Austin to three winning seasons (1981-1982; 1983-1984) and made All-America First Team honors each season he played for the Longhorns. He then transferred to the NBA where he became one of the most talented players ever drafted by an American university (Noah Vonleh selected first overall in 2007). Durant finished his playing career with 18 sacks (fourth on UT Austin’s all-time list) and led the Dallas Mavericks to their first championship game since 1987 when they faced Philadelphia 76ers in a Finals series that went seven games but ended without a decisive victory due to Sixers player Julius Erving scoring 50 points with 36 rebounds off of nine assists off of just 10 minutes per game including four 3 pointers! After being drafted fifth overall by the Mavs in 1984 draft donning number 42 which would have been his rookie season had it not been for some injuries sustained during college play which caused him initially trouble fitting into NFL teams new defensive schemes Durant finally made it onto an NFL roster as an undrafted free agent with New Orleans Saints in 1989 where he recorded 9 tackles my 4 interceptionsreturning kicks averaging 49 yards per return! This led him back home again with Dallas who waived him prior to training camp so that they could sign veteran cornerback Troy Aikman who had just retired after leading Dallas to their third Super Bowl title! In 1992 Durant joined forces once more with former teammate Aikman along with current Mavericks owner Mark Cuban on what would be called “The Thunderbuns” becoming one of the greatest offenses ever assembled featuring 28 different players combined on 12 different teams over six seasons averaging 100 point seasons followed up by 5 championships banner titles including 2 MVP Awards!!! With this success came plenty new controversies such as comments about racism towards black athletes or any type discrimination towards any minority group throughout his career despite never having said anything controversial outside sports even though many people consider himself racially biased against certain minorities like Kobe Bryant or LeBron James
