In high school, Durant was a dominant center for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He averaged 26 points and 12 rebounds per game as a senior and helped lead his team to the NBA Finals in 2010. The following season, Durant averaged 28 points and 10 rebounds per game while helping the Thunder reach the Conference Finals. In 2014-15, Durant led the Warriors to their first championship in franchise history with a record-breaking 73-9 regular season and postseason record. He also won MVP honors after averaging 38 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals per game during the playoffs. The Warriors were then able to face Golden State in the NBA Finals but lost by 5 games. Durant is widely considered one of the greatest players ever to play professional basketball.

Durant was born in the town of Shawnee, Oklahoma, on December 4, 1892. His father, George Durant, ran a small grocery store. Durant attended local schools and then worked at his father's store for three years before enrolling at Oklahoman Consolidated High School in 1911. He played football and basketball there and also won two state championships as a fullback. After high school, Durant enrolled at University of Oklahoma in 1912 and played football for the Sooners until 1917. During that time he also won two national championships as a running back with the University of Texas Longhorns (1913) and the University of Michigan Wolverines (1915). Durant transferred to The Citadel in 1918 after playing one season for Oklahoma State Cowboys (1897–98). While at The Citadel he became an All-American linebacker for the Bulldogs. He then returned to Oklahoma State to play safety for coach Bud Wilkinson's 1915 team that went undefeated but lost in the Cotton Bowl to Alabama. After leaving college, Durant became an assistant coach at SMU from 1920 to 1922 before being named head coach there in 1923. There he ledSMU to its first bowl game (the Sugar Bowl) andheturned quarterback Norm Van Brocklin into an NFL champion (1924). In 1926 he was fired after leading SMU to its third consecutive losing campaign; Van Brocklin had become too successful for him to control offensively. Durant moved on from coaching after four seasons with USF; his final job was as player/coach with Tulsa from 1929 through 1931 before becoming general manager of the Stampede baseball team from 1932 until 1934. From 1935 until his retirement in 1939, Durant served as executive director of the American Football Foundation; during this time he helped found both the National Football League (NFL) and National Basketball Association (NBA). In 1940 he received an honorary degree from OU; following his retirement he lived briefly in Japan before moving permanently to Stockbridge Township, Georgia where he died on December 16, 1974.
Durant was born in Durant, Oklahoma on December 15, 1968. He is a professional basketball player who currently plays for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Durant attended high school at Shawnee Mission East and then played college basketball for the University of Oklahoma under coach Rick Majerus. In 2009, he was named NBA Finals MVP after leading the Warriors to their first championship in four decades.
