When the city of Duncan, Oklahoma was founded in 1907, it had a population of only seventy-two people. However, over time, the city’s population grew to over one thousand and ninety-six by 1921. By that year, Duncan had become an important agricultural center due to its location on the Cimarron River. The city’s growth continued until World War II when it fell to Nazi Germany and then Japan during the war. After the war, Duncan slowly regained its former prosperity and began developing into a major cultural center. In 1957, Duncan became part of the United States and in 1992 it became an independent municipality. Today, Duncan is home to an estimated twenty-one thousand residents and is considered an important cultural and commercial center for central Oklahoma.

Duncan is a small town in Oklahoma, located on the banks of the Arkansas River. The population was 1,060 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. Duncan was founded on November 12, 1907 by John and Maud Duncan. John Duncan built a log cabin and named it "Duncan". In 1911, he married Anna Ladd. They had two children: Donald and Margaret. The Duncans were farmers until they became ranchers in the early 1920s. In 1924, they bought land at what is now I-40 and built a house which still stands today called Park Place House. They continued to farm until around 1930 when they started making money in oil production. In 1935, Don Duncan sold his share in Park Place House to Russel Winton who operated it as an inn/motel until his death in 1978. In 1983, Lamar O'Neill bought Park Place House from Russel Winton and reopened it as the Hotel OKC which continues to serve as its current incarnation today (since 2007). On October 15th 1990, Oral Roberts University opened its doors after years of planning and construction by local business owners Lamar O'Neill and Don Duncan III along with friends Warren Clements (founder of Denny's) and Russ Winton (owner of Park Place House). That same year also saw the first basketball game played at Paducah High School between then known as Tulsa Central High School (#1 seed) from Muskogee County (#2 seed) with future NBA player Alexander Volokh playing for Tulsa Central High School; eventually leading them to their first state championship game that season against #4 Sequoyah HS’s home court victory 87-64 on February 3rd 1991 becoming only the second school ever to win back-to-back state championships thereabouts...Oral Roberts University would becomeOklahoma’s main educational provider throughout much of this era through purchase or donation by various individuals or foundations prior to deregulation Act 253 (1987)...Today OU continues its tradition both administratively through many divisions including Athletics & Recreation while also expanding several programs such as law enforcement/firefighting & health sciences thru partnerships with other colleges or universities across state lines

However, during the late 1960s and early 1970s Duncan underwent an dramatic growth spurt that made it one of Oklahoma's fastest-growing cities. By 1980 Duncan had a population of over 5,000 residents. In recent years however, Duncan has seen significant decline as its economy has shifted toward service industries such as health care and government services. The city's unique history is rooted in its location on the Arkansas River floodplain. The city was first settled in 1907 when two brothers decided to move their cattle from Tombstone to new land near present day Duncan after they lost their old ranch in NAFTA Battle Creek County (now Muskogee County). At first the men built simple houses out of materials found around them: logs and earth were used for walls and roofs respectively. Over time more elaborate structures were erected including churches, schools, businesses and homes. During World War I many people left for military service; some brought their families with them across state lines. When America entered World War II many local citizens served in uniform but when hostilities ended most returned home to take up farming or other activities outside of town until 1949 when construction began on what would become Town Lake Park which included an amusement park called "The Ark" which drew people from all over towns throughout OKlahoma City for summer fun (and sometimes business meetings). The park closed down in 1967 due to budget cuts but remnants can still be seen today at Keystone Lake where there is a walking path leading away from Interstate 44 just beyond Keystone Dam parking lot off US Highway 69W about 6 miles east of downtown Tulsa ( directions map ). In 1984 developers started building another amusement park next to KeystoneLake called "Cedar Rapids" which led to the current name for town – "Duncan". Today much of what made Duncan so vibrant during its past has faded away; however some aspects such as its rich cultural heritage remain unchanged including traditional Anglo/Caucasian music performances at night known as "jazz shows", horseback riding on warm days or cold nights inside old cotton barns located throughout town square or along creek bankside trails close enough for children to reach them without getting wet while adults enjoy fine dining downstairs at locally owned restaurants or out on nearby golf courses enjoying views of downtown Tulsa while eating country ham sandwiches or burgers etc…. There are even now occasional street fairs taking place each spring like last year's Folk Festival hosted by the Chamber Music Society featuring local performers playing traditional Appalachian tunes outdoors followed by dinner inside afterwards…..hundreds if not thousands more visitors annually come through town than ever before!

The town began to grow rapidly after construction of a railroad station and depot became a reality. In 1912, Duncans first school was built and it remained in use until 1959 when it was replaced by the present day Duncan High School. The town's economy changed quickly following World War II with new technology becoming popular in the area. This led to businesses opening up and people starting their own families. In 1957, the city of Duncan was incorporated and many of the original residents decided to move away from the small town they had known for so long.
