The townsite extended into what is now eastern Oklahoma County when it was formed on November 15, 1912. At that time, only a limited number of homes were built and most residents relied on agriculture for their income and housing. Despite its success as an agricultural community, Duncan struggled during World War II due to its location near Mexico City and other war-related industries in nearby Wichita Falls. However, thanks to support from local businesses and citizens alike, the town bounced back quickly after the conflict ended. Over the years, many new homes have been built in downtown Duncan while also growing acreage within its borders for farming purposes; today there are more than 675 acres developed within city limits alone!
