In 1916–17 construction began on what would become Duncan's first schoolhouse - now known as McClennan Elementary School - with funds provided by Senator Charles Curtis (R). Despite opposition from some prominent citizens who saw schoolhouses as foolish extravagances that would detract from their rural economy, the new building became an important factor in growing Duncan's population over time. In 1922 Duncan hosted its first parade which featured floats made out of live chickens; this event was followed by its first annual picnic three years later. In 1934 A&P Stores opened its first store in town; since then there have been numerous additional stores and restaurants opening throughout the years including four JCPenney stores in 2002 alone (the last being KFC). Today there are more than seventy businesses operating within radius of downtown Duncan limits making it one of America's fastest-growing communities for economic development. As well as hosting events such as rodeo races or concerts at nearby Tinker Air Force Base each year during summertime there are also many special events organized throughout the year including arts festivals held at various locations within walking distance from downtown or even further away like Guthrie State University where music performances are often staged during fall semester breaks for students living on campus rivaling those taking place inside McClellan Arena District during basketball games between Tulsa Golden Hurricane men’s and women’s teams respectively... these days not only does Duncan boast world-class entertainment options but also excellent quality education opportunities thanks to comprehensive high school programs which offer multiple sports experiences along with fine arts curricula that prepare young adults for successful postsecondary careers

Duncan is a small town in Oklahoma, located just east of the state capital, Oklahoma City. It was founded in 1907 by Scots-Irish immigrants, and has been home to a variety of businesses and residents since then. The nameDuncan comes from the Shawnee word DUNCAN meaning "potato field." The town's first post office was established in 1907. Duncan was named for General David Duncan, who fought in the Mexican-American War on the side of Mexico. In 1907, Duncan had two stores and one grocery store. By 1914, there were six businesses in Duncan with a total population of about 200 people. In 1940, the government shutdown caused a decline in business activity due to lack of available resources. However, by 1945, the community had regained its growth rate and had twelve businesses with a population of over 500 people. In 1955, Buchanan County formed and Duncan became part of it; however, business continued to grow until 1961 when county officials decided not to annex any more towns within their borders because they felt that doing so would harm neighbouring communities too much. Businesses began to decrease again beginning in the early 1970s as social changes began to take hold throughout America - including an increase in crime rates - which impacted demand for goods sold by small businesses. However, during the late 1980s through 2000s business slowly increased once again due to new technology becoming popular across many industries and an increasing number of jobs outside traditional customer service positions; this led toDuncan's current economic prosperity which has lead it into being one ofOklahoma's most vibrant communities
