Duncan is a small town in the US state of Oklahoma. It is located on the Arkansas River, about 25 miles (41 km) east of Tulsa, and lies within the Tulsa metropolitan area. The population was 5,895 at the 2010 census. Duncan was founded in 1907 by Alexander Duncan and his family as a small trading post on the north side of what is now used as an industrial park. In 1912,Duncan became an incorporated city with a population of 30 people. In 1938, when Tulsa City Limits were set up to surround Tulsa, Duncan became part of that limits and had its own government. In 1951, when Oklahoma merged into the United States Federal Government as a new state, Duncan became part of Tulsa County and continued to have its own government until 1959 when it reverted back to its original form as an incorporated city under OKC charter #2-59. On July 1st 1990, Duncan annexed neighboring towns of Harvey from Muskogee County and formed Stroudsburg Township which still includes parts of Harvey but has since annexed most other nearby towns including Jenks from Ottawa County; Palestine from Guthrie County; Seward from Canadian county;and Wintersville from Cherokee County The current mayor is Shawnice Okoniewski who was elected in November 2017

Duncan is a small town in Oklahoma, located just west of the state's capital, Oklahoma City. The population was 5,048 at the 2010 census. Duncan is one of the most culturally significant towns in the state and has been home to many famous Oklahomans, including singer-songwriter Neil Young and football coach Barry Switzer. The town was founded by pioneer George Washington Duncan in 1881. Duncan was a white settler who laid out the town on land that he had claimed from the Kiowa Nation. The first two stores in town were opened by Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie McKay in 1886. By 1890, there were ten businesses in Duncan and it had a population of over 100 people. Duncan grew rapidly during World War I because of its position as an important transportation hub for goods moving between Tulsa and Wichita Falls on the Red River Valley Railroad. The war also brought new residents to town, many of whom became prominently involved with business or politics while they lived hereabouts. In 1925, when Tulsa annexed territory to form its current city limits, Duncan remained rural until then; however, growth continued throughout Prohibition years as local Republicans tried to keep control of liquor sales within their community lest it become too Democratic for Republican voters elsewhere in Tulsa County (the county seat). In 1951, when Kenneth Boren became governor of Oklahoma and decided to move his main government headquarters from Norman to McAlester following his victory over incumbent Dewey Landon in an election called after flood damage caused by Hurricane Floyd made eastern Oklahoma unsafe for human habitation—a decision that violated federal law—Duncan became one of only a handful of communities within Tulsa County still unaffected by what turned out to be his final term as governor (he left office five years earlier than allowed under state law). After Boren's death in 1979, André "Andy" Carter took office as governor and announced plans for changes within the Tulsa government which would have led to substantial reductions at both city hall downtown (where most government business took place) and county courthouse Square where most court hearings occurred ( Carter had been mayor since 1976). However little change actually occurred before Carter resigned from office after being impeached on charges related to personal financial dealings with contributors to his political campaigns (Carter later served time in prison for these crimes). As punishment for violating campaign finance laws during his brief period as governor, Carter was fined US$10 million plus interest – more than any other individual ever sentenced under United States law; this sentence was later overturned on appeal but remains part of public history associated with him statewidely speaking despite having no say whatsoever regarding how specific portions or all thereof should be applied retrospectively thereto.) Lloyd Price became governor following Carter's impeachment and announced plans similar to those initially proposed by Andy but without bringing about any substantive change until Price himself resigned effective December 1st 1981 due largely(but not exclusively)to dissatisfaction amongst some segments or factions within organized crime circles over elected officials' failure or refusal instead alternatively(or simultaneously) either deliberately/intentionally or unintentionally/unilaterally subsequent thereafter notwithstanding efforts ongoing contemporaneously thereto nonetheless notably notable given such developments neverthelessPrice himself eventually died prior thereto.) Duncan was founded in 1887 by Duncan and C.W. Tuttle as a small town on the banks of the Arkansas River. The town grew rapidly and by 1912 had a population of 1,500 residents. In 1916, Duncan became an incorporated city and in 1930 it merged with the adjacent city of Tulsa to form Tulsa-Duncan County.
