Cotton became a key commodity throughout much of American history due to its low environmental impact- until it was supplanted by petroleum as America's primary source of energy around World War II. During the 1920s, Del City experienced rapid growth thanks to its proximity to major transportation hubs- particularly Tulsa and Wichita- as well as access to valuable water resources. The town benefited from increased demand for cotton due to rising industrialization throughout much of America; fields were developed near either rivers or reservoirs for easy irrigation. Grain elevator construction also expanded intoDelCity during this time period; early examples include the White Sands Pipeline Company's construction of an oil pipeline from West Texas through OKLA in 1925[1].
