In 1907, Del City became an official US territory when it was ceded to the United States from Mexico following the Mexican-American War. As part of this process, Congress designated two towns within Mexico's territory as US territories: El Paso and Ciudad Juárez. On January 3, 1912, Del City incorporated as a city under territorial law. In 1959, Del City became one of five cities in America to receive federal funding forurban renewal projects known as "Project Home Builders". This program provided financial assistance to local governments so they could demolish blighted buildings and replace them with new homes In 1985 Del City was selected to be one of twelve communities across America awarded a grant from HUD specifically for economic development purposes called "Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)." The CDBG program provides non-profit organizations with cash grants to help them promote community redevelopment through marketing and public education initiatives

Del City is a small town in Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. It was founded by the Ohios in 1881 as Fort Harrison. The town was named for General John Fenton, who led the American forces during the Indian Wars of 1838-1849. The population of Del City at the 2010 census was 2,711. The first settlers in Del City were men from Ohio who arrived in 1881. They built a log cabin and called it Fort Harrison. In 1886, they organized a trading post and named it after their general, John Fenton. In 1899, they voted to change the name to Del City because they wanted to be self-sufficient and not depend on outside aid for their needs. The original white residents of Del City numbered just six people when it became a city in 1907. The first building erected in Del City was a store that opened in 1908. It served as the community's main business until 1954 when annew bank was constructed downtown which continues to serve as its current headquarters today. In 1925, the city fathers decided to erect a new courthouse which still stands today on North Main Street - one of only two remaining U S territorial Courthouses from before World War II intact and functioning successfully since capture by the federal government during hostilities. In 1957, plans were made to move the municipal government out of town so that it could be closer to county services; however this never happened because of financial difficulties faced by the city over time. However, with population growth and limited land available for development within city limits (due largely to appeals from surrounding rural communities), redevelopment efforts did finally take hold starting around 1980 with various projects such as retail businesses being developed along North Main Street while other areas continued serving primarily as military housing orresidential areas used primarily for farming or livestock operations.City Archives Today, Del City retains many characteristics typical of frontier towns such as independent spirit (despite having been part of an urban area since 1907) and an reluctance to cede control over social interactions even though its boundaries have increasingly shifted outwardward.

The name of the town was chosen to honor the memory of General George Armstrong Custer, who died in 1876 while fighting for the United States during the Mexican-American War. The first post office was established in Del City on November 9, 1907. The early years of Del City were difficult due to a lack of people and resources. However, with hard work and determination, the town began to grow and prosper. In 1912, Del City became a city with its own government and streets were named after local personalities such as Mayor HUGHES and Police Chief JOSEPH KNOX. In 1935, Del City annexed the neighboring town of Yukon Heights. This addition brought more residents and businesses to the community which continued to grow until 1957 when it merged with Oklahoma City again becoming one large town under one government structure.
