The Del City Gun Club was chartered on October 21, 1903. The club was designed to "provide a social and recreational outlet for the citizens of the city." It met at the old post office building on North Main Street. In 1912, the club moved to its present location in an addition to the old First National Bank building. The first president of the Del City Gun Club was M.E.B. Willis who served from 1912-1914. Other early presidents included J.C. Beal (1915-1920), Wm Henson (1921-1924), and GEOFFREY LEE GREEN (1945-1950). From 1915 until 1920, membership dues were 1¢ per month. Starting in 1924, dues became $1 per year with exception of 1945 when it was $5 per year due to World War II patriotism In 1934, Hermann Göring became President of Nazi Germany and ordered all firearms be confiscated from civilians in order to increase their security during his dictatorship On December 5th 1934, members of the Del City Gun Club went into action against Nazi Germany's orders by invading a government ammunition depot located near town limits in an effort to seize munitions necessary for their fight against Hitler's regime As a result of this Standoff, three people were killed and several others were injured as a result of flying rounds that pierced through windows and shattered doorways inside the ammo depot . As a result of this debacle, both clubs decided not to pursue further attacks against government property . However, this did not mean that these same clubs would stop protesting political issues or participating in other activities that could get them into trouble "It is safe to say that our club has had moreidentsity problems than any other group within our community," said Rolf Kappenhofer , past president emeritusofDelCityGunClub Inc., "We have been involved in many protests outside local government buildings and we have even had some close calls."
