However, due to new discoveries in Oklahoma during World War II there has been growth back into DelCity thanks to businesses like Sam’s Club who have located thereabouts over time including an extensive truck stop known as The Dogtown Speedway today located just east of I-40 exit 141A (Exit 129B if traveling west on I-40). In recent years downtown Del City has seen increasing revitalization taking place such as new restaurants opening up along I-40/US 169 corridor which now fronts University Avenue; redevelopment going on near Railroad Street including a mix of apartments and condos; and significant investment being made into economic development through partnerships with government agencies like OKDOT and energy companies like Sooner GasCorp.; these types of projects help keep downtownDelcity vibrant while also attracting new residents who are drawn by its excellent quality of life amenities as well as its proximity to major metropolitan areas like Tulsa or Oklahoma City

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Del City has a population of 25,711. The area that is now Del City was first settled in 1881 by settlers from eastern Oklahoma Territory who name their community after the city of Detroit, Michigan. In 1907, the Oklahoma Legislature created the town of Del City as an urban renewal project designed to clear land for new housing developments and improve public infrastructure. The original town had a population of just over 10,000 people. The townsite on which Del City stands today was developed between 1927 and 1929 as part of a larger urban renewal project called "Oklahoma's Great Migration." As part of this initiative, the state government bought 3 million acres (10 km2) of farmland in western Oklahoma Territory and turned it into what is now Tulsa County. Along with other rural areas throughout the state, Oklahomans were encouraged to move to Tulsa County in order to take advantage of its large population density and well-developed infrastructure. In 1937, when Tulsa County became an official county within Oklahoma Territory,Del City became one of its five cities. At that time, it had a population totaling only 9600 people; however, since then it has seen significant growth due to annexation by neighboring counties and development along both downtown streets and residential neighborhoods located east and west of I-40/I-35 interchange.
