Del City is a city in the U.S. state of Oklahoma, located on the Little Colorado River near its confluence with the Arkansas River. As of 2010, the population was 492. The city was founded in 1907 by settlers from what is now Wichita, Kansas and was named for Leroy Denton, who had come toOklahoma Territory as part of the Texas Land Run in 1867. The first post office in Del City opened in 1907. The name change came about because of an effort by then-Mayor John Hogg to get businesses to open up and use their original names rather than be associated with Wichita or other eastern towns that were being renamed after themselves. In 1909, the first oil well was drilled at Del City and production began making it one of Oklahoma's leading oil communities during World War I; however, due to congressional prohibition against producing oil within Mexican territory at that time, Del City saw very little economic growth until after World War II when production picked back up again thanks to new drilling techniques and a boom in natural gas development which has since been surpassed by Tulsa's crescent-shaped skyline. Though smalltown proportions still prevail (just over 1% of the population lives in major metropolitan areas), there are also several high-profile residents including Shawnee County Judge Don Whitehurst (the son of famed author Ernest Hemingway) and former Tulsa Mayor George Nichols who were elected officials before moving eastward into larger cities such as Tulsa or Oklahoma City where they continue to make significant contributions today.

Del City is an archaeological site in Oklahoma, United States. It was founded by the Kiowa and Comanche Indians in the late 18th century. The Kiowa and Comanche were forced out of their homeland by Spanish settlers, who named it Rancho San Felipe after a Spanish rancho (farm) in New Mexico. The Kiowa and Comanche ceded their land to the US government in 1907 as part of the Indian Allotment Act. The first permanent settler in Del City was José A. Rivera, who arrived on horseback around 1887. He built his house on what is now First Street near present day Roosevelt Avenue, which he called "Granada." Rivera was one of many early American pioneers to find success inOklahoma's new statehood process that followed Mexican independence from Spain. By 1890, almost half of all Oklahomans had come to live within the territory boundaries that would become Oklahoma; only 5 percent of the population lived outside these limits at this time. In 1893, Rivera married María Isabel de la Garza y García de la Vega, daughter of Lieutenant Governor Domingo García de la Vega and Mariana Cámpora Sánchez de Salazar y Menendez-Lobos y López-Mendoza. Rivera helped organize a group of farmers who donated 10 acres (40 hectares) for town development purposes near what is now First Street and Roosevelt Avenue in 1889; this parcel became known as Plaza del Carmen or "City Square." The square included a schoolhouse, three hotels - twouphemistically called "boardinghouses" because they were used as transient lodging for Native Americans during construction - two stores - one operated by Antonio Pascual Moreno alias Tomás Pascual - a post office - two churches (one Protestant, one Catholic), four residences: José Arazábal's house on First Street between First Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue; Francisco Hernandez's house on Third Street between Park Boulevard and Fourth Avenue; Anson Gass at Seventh Place between Second Avenue and Fourth Avenue;and Adolphus Hixon at Eighth Place between Third Alley and Fourth Alley. The first courthouse was erected here about 1895 using materials brought over from Fort Worth by local farmer George Treadway Sr.; it burned down shortly thereafter but not before being used as a model for the current building on MarketStreet adjacent to nearby Southern Methodist University campus. In 1898 another store opened up along Third Alley: La Victoria Bakery & confectionery chain founder Manuelita Martinez opened her business next door to her mother’s grocery store/marketing operation located at Eighth Place south of Second Ave., across from Elks Lodge No 2 [now demolished]. Thisenterprise also served as OKC’s first bank when it opened its doors July 1st 1899 with Juana Gomez as its president.) In 1901 developer James W Murchison leased land northeast of Del City from Chisholm Trailer Railroad Company[1] which developed into Old Town Tulsa today’s Quicken Loans Arena[2][3]. On January 12th 1902 Murchison purchased 142 acres (58 km²)[4] just east of present day downtown Tulsa from railroad magnate Isaac Nance for $450 per acre[5], becoming owner/operator thereof immediately upon purchase subject to easement restrictions imposed by Nance prohibiting retailing within 500 feet (152 m) northwestwardof Main Street until such time that more extensive facilities could be constructed thereon including credit unions,[6],[7] movie theaters,[8]and other large commercial enterprises…. Notwithstanding restrictions placed upon him by Nance –presumably related to zoning issues created with annexation efforts following World War I –Murchison began developing his property into what has since become central Tulsa[9]: subdivisions totaling 156 blocks covering 3 square miles (10 km²); easternmost Cherokee Nation Reservation lying within limits resulting from Treaty 6 negotiations completed September 14th 1907 resulted in incorporation date December 15th 1907 under name “Tulsa”………………………………………..Aboriginal historyPrior To 1800 most inhabitants were hunters & gatherers living off country hunting grounds… …during Creek Wars 1830-1863 hundreds died due natural causes like smallpox epidemics etc……………..In 1867 white man discovered oil field on Creek lands soOklahoma became State Of Texas
