When the war ended, most residents returned home but a few dozen remained behind to help manage the post office and other municipal functions while their homes were bombed or burned during combat operations overlord Japan's atomic bombing campaign against America throughout 1945-1946. After years of discussion between both governments concerning how best to handle this problem – which included some form of land sales operation – it seemed likely that land would be available within short order for development if only enough interest existed among those living within commuting distance to actually purchase it! Del City is a small town in western Oklahoma, located about 25 miles north of McAlester and 50 miles south of Norman. The population was 2,083 at the 2010 census. The town was named for Daniel Denton (1851-1925), who had arrived from Texas in 1881 and operated a store there before moving to what is now Del City in 1886. In 1907, J.W. Hall opened a hardware store here which became one of the most important stores in the community until it closed its doors in 1970. Other early businesses established by residents include A&P grocery store (1913), Purdy's music store (1915), and the post office (1920). A school building was built here in 1925 and additions were made to it over time including a gymnasium, library/museum, and first floor apartments for students. The current school building was dedicated on October 1, 1951. The original class room as well as some other buildings on campus were moved to new locations after the tornado damage caused by tornadoes on May 15th EF5 9/11/2001 destroyed much of McAlester; however, many classes continued to be held at the old location until 2006 when all classes moved into new facilities within town limits which are still used today for public education purposes only! In recent years there has been an effort underway to get back onto Main Street with plans currently under way to rebuild streetscape infrastructure such as sidewalks and streetlights throughout town with hopes that this will bring more tourists or business visitors through town during certain tourist season months such as July - September when the local economy usually thrives!
